Hi I drove down in September. Two things I’d mention; tolls very expensive in France! Watch out for scammers around Barcelona who pull up next to you on the motorway and indicate there’s a problem with your car. They want you to stop and then rob you. They tried with me and I ignored them but...

... when I investigated later I realised it was a common occurrence. Other than that it was an enjoyable few days!

I go abberville 28 Rouen n154 to N10 tours / Bordeaux d834 n134 to border tunnel once in Spain head for Zaragoza Alicant Murcia this time when I got into Spain motorway all the way no tolls , through France all good roads mainly dual Carriageway normally come through under €20 in tolls , because I'm tight I'm in campervan takes 3 days only me driving

Yes that’s a good option if you aren’t is a real rush. I stopped in the Pyrenees to see brother and had a dog so took the lazy route!

Firstly I would like to thank the people who run this site and all the people who take their time ask questions and reply I find it a great help and insightful. I'm 61 and single and live in the North West of England work full time and earn a below average salary. I'm hoping to retire when I'm 64...

... and up to now Mojacar is where I want to relocate to. I will fund this by selling my home in the UK and buying cash, I will of course be totally funding the first two years from savings before I can draw my state pension at 66 (don't start be on that subject) I'm not looking at buying a car as I can't justify or afford the expense. To carry on living in the UK I would either have to carry on working well past my retirement age to be able to own my car and my house and have 1 holiday a year or I would have to downsize considerably and to a different and not so good neighrbourhood , plus put up with the awful climate which gets me down. It would be great to know if there are people who have been in a similar position as myself, made the move and how they are getting on, what obticles they have come across if any, how they have settled in etc.

Best regards

Sandra

I moved here 18 months ago.  I spent lockdown back in the UK staying with family and returned end July.  I am now staying here permanently and must agree the weather makes such a difference to how you feel.  I have to wait for my pension too but am happy with the decision I have made.  It has been very quiet here due to  COVID but definitely the right dec

It seems that everyone, i think without exception, say that its been a good decision  to move to Mojacar (or surrounds) , and have no regrets. I look forward to me making the plunge in the next couple of years !

Hi everyone I hope you are all well. Just an update to say I arrived in Mojacar on the 24th Sept the day before my birthday so it’s a date I will never forget for the start of my new life. I’m renting a duplex at the moment on the Mirador Del Mar, and to be perfectly honest not keen at all bu...

...t that’s a learning curve and the whole point of renting. In the plus side I have met some lovely people and have been out and about. I have my Padron, a Spanish Bank Account and a Spanish Phone Number, had a delay in getting my Health Insurance but now on to this with a broker and another company. I’ve viewed a few properties with the view to buy but nothing suitable but it’s early days yet. It’s all a massive learning curve but only to be expected, moving to another country and starting a new life was never going to be a walk in the park :-) But looking forward to a brighter and better life here in Spain.

Hello Sandra, I have followed your journey with the greatest interest since I joined a few days ago. I plan on moving out to Mojacar permanently once my very elderly mother is no longer with us. It may be a few years yet but I so want/ need a new start one day. You mention health insurance and I wonder if you could give me any advice please? Because of Brexit I will definitely need  health  insurance and my biggest fear is that I won’t be able to afford it. I hope that you are settling well now- what a shame you’re not keen on your apartment but your attitude is positive and admirable and I feel sure you will have a wonderful life once you feel more settled and confident! If you could advise me ref private health insurance or point me in the direction of any reputable companies I would be so grateful. I wish you happiness, fulfilment and good health in your new life and hope that one day I will make it to Mojacar and we can meet up fir a chat perhaps?Wishing you the very best of luck ref finding your new home! With kindest regards, Jan

Now that the UK has left the EU you will need more than your pension to move here, you will need €27000 per year,  plus you will have to pay for your medical insurance....its a lot harder now
