If you haven't been to mojacar since February 2020 how come you are so conversant with the behaviour of the residents/visitors?

HI Adrian,

1. I am very friendly with most of my Spanish neighbours (most of them are from the UK) and I keep in touch as they do with me. If you've heard of WhatsApp you'd be familiar with the cost efficient means of communication. Email is handy too. And I communicate with some Spaniards too; helps my Spanish skills.

2. I participate on this forum where occasionally I learn something new when especially I seperate the chaff from the wheat. Mind you! There's much chaff.

3. I know other Irish people who remained in Ireland and they would also be in contact with their Spanish neighbours. Somehow my Irish friends and I can cut through the lies and rumours and take in the truth.

4. If I left anything out or appear to be non helpful or if clarification is required please advise.

Leon is on the ball and probably thought that I am an Irish cynic and I plead guilty. My ol' buddy James contributed and right enough I owe him a pint (certainly not an 'alf) providing he leaves his Panama hat at home. We'll do that too. Call1e is concerned that the thread might be going in the wrong direction. It isn't. Adrian asked a pertinent question and I as a recent subscriber to WhatsApp replied. (One of my grandchilden called to the house and minutes later I was on WhatsApp for the first time). Adrian is correct to ask questions (something even I should do here more often). When you are seeking the real truth it is sensible to discard whatever is not factual first. I think Adrian was merely trying to do this.

This thread is good and has the potential to be an example to other threads and I commend Call1e for this.

Hi, we live here permanently and throughout the crisis have been impressed and comforted by how hard the council, police and medical centres to name but a few have worked to.keep us safe, and for most of the time we have felt very safe indeed. We were certainly happier to be here than in the UK. Most bars and restaurants have also worked hard to maintain hygiene standards.

Cases are clearly rising in the area and despite the enormous efforts of officials to test and track and trace, the bottom line is that we are not well resourced here in Almeria to do this, probably because we had so few cases during lockdown the resources were not required. Unfortunately this means that we just do not know how bad the spread of the virus is. True, it is still fairly easy to keep a good distance from strangers while out and about. However, given that most of the recent surge in cases is amongst waiters and waitresses who share apartments with other waiters and waitresses there is the potential for the disease to have spread widely. If that's the case who knows what will happen next.

Thanks for that Juliet.

Like I've said we had two weeks here in July and felt really safe . We didn't eat out too much but did have a beer on the beach or occasionally in town. It's a bit of a gamble as life is but in the UK you have young staff serving without masks in restaurants and supermarkets and shops who undoubtedly are out mixing all over the place. The pubs are rammed, beaches are rammed parks too. We know if we can get there safe we can be safe in our apartment , as much as you can be. We've 2 weeks till we come and it's still a dilemma.

Hi again. It's a difficult decision . There are an awful lot of positives about being here, in particular being able to spend so much time outdoors ( which I'm sure is much safer) and that the warm weather will last until Christmas with fewer colds and flu than in the UK. You would just need to be sure that if you got stuck here in a lockdown ( and our lockdown was pretty harsh) you'd be fine with that. Also that you'd be covered health wise. I have parents in the UK I am desperate to get out here but they're afraid to travel! If I were you the only major worry would be that if things got really bad in this area would the hospitals cope as there isn't an awful  lot of provision.and nothing like the infrastructure there is in the UK. Very best wishes.

Thanks again for that it's very helpful. I'm edging personally to cut the trip to 2 weeks. The real issue is that whilst the UK FCO rules out all but essential travel all travel insurance is void so that side of the risk is elevated. This leaves only the fall back is the EHIC system which is good but doesn't cover all bases at all.🤔🤔😷
