Hi everyone.

We have an apt in Marina de la Torre which we have been updating/fixing. We have flights 27/8 to come back for 7 weeks to carry on. We've had these flights for months.  Ryanair won't cancel flights , the Spanish haven't closed borders, and we'll have to quarantine on return to the UK. The question is should we come . Has the situation worsened in Mojacar/ Garrucha area, to the state of it being "high risk". It's not particularly great in UK. We note the cluster in Mojacar around some clubs but has that situation eased. Is there a feeling Spain will totally lock down soon? Any advice would be great with just 2 weeks to go👍😷🤞

I too am apprehensive about visiting Mojacar. I haven't been there since February 2020 and wondering whether to travel during October/November having dismissed August and September.

1. I have no fears of the cleanliness of restaurants/supermarkets/shops. I understand all are making excellent efforts to keep their establishment Covid free.

2. I have fears of the plonkers (a) Who refuse to wear face masks (b) Who don't observe all anti Covid recommendations (c) "Hard" Cases who hang their face masks on restaurant/bar parasols to dry (d) Who do not know how to wear and adjust face masks and keep touching everything they see in supermarkets/shops (e) Who think anti Covid rules do not apply to them (f) Who think they can throw their arms around you and kiss you on the cheek (g) Who use apartment complex swimming pools and do not clean after them (h) Situations in departure and arrival airports, cleanliness on transfer services (i) assholes on transfer services and elsewhere who continuously pontificate their own safety over others instead of sharing their concerns.

3. Nobody can say at this stage that things won't improve or worsen in the area (although we're never short of "experts" on the matter).

4. It might cost a few bob extra to book flights later, but that's no big deal in the greater scheme of things. You can play Ryanair "roulette" and book and if you are prepared to kiss Adios to the few bob if you fail to travel then well and good.

Cheers Matthew. Can always rely on you to help.

We came in July for 2 weeks and, believe me, found Mojacar way safer than where we live in Yorkshire. We trusted the systems put in place on the whole. Yes we did see some idiots. Mostly young Spaniards in bars who could not control themselves and who used their masks as headbands or wrist bands. We keep ourselves to ourselves in UK and Spain so don't see coming as a very high risk. Was just wondering if things in the area were stable or worsening. It seems Almeria is worst area of Andalusia but are the Spanish doing enough to control it or is there a feeling a rigidlock down coming? We're young retirees so quarantine on return is not an issue, just not sure I want a hard Spanish lock down.

In my view it is totally safe to come to Mojacar, I play golf at Marina every week without any problem.  We did have some positive cases at 3 Mojacar nightclubs two weeks ago, but those involved were traced and isolated, we have had a few people tested positive since then, but it is under control. I think there have only been two deaths in Almeria province since the 31st of May.

In my opinion you would be better off in Spain, but be warned, it’s very hot

Thanks for that. It seems you have the same opinion we had in July 👍😷

I don't wish to get involved in "Us V Them" semantics but my opinion is based on what I hear from my (i) Mojacar neighbours (ii) The amount of Covid infections/deaths in the area (iii) The "R" number.

(iv) Truthful Information is scant at this moment and before I make a decision to travel I'll need something concrete. Most of what we're getting is from facebook and the Euro Weekly News (neither are reliable columns of Truth). I can rely on the Irish government's guidelines on Covid-19 and still Spain is not on the "Green" List for travel. Spain (at minimum) will have to be on the Irish "Green" list before I make my decision.

Cheers Matthew.

The official figures in Spain are for significant rises in Some areas and increases in most areas with death rates increasing. Andalusia is seeing worst increases in the South. These increases in all areas are in specific pockets, towns, villages, businesses but impacting like in all countries the poor worst. 4.5 million people in the North of England are in some form of lock down. However you can go on holiday outside these areas. Not sure what Ireland is like but pockets will occur there too. My enquiry was specific to Mojacar area. There's no chance of travel restrictions being lifted and more countries are including Spain.

we live in Residencia de Ataylaya in Marina de la Torre apart from the usual tourists mostly Spanish at the moment we do not have a problem going out and about.  there are the idiots who won't wear a mask properly but most have one on.  We just avoid anyone we think we don't like the look of we don't go out in the evenings though.  There have been 72 confirmed cases of Covid linked to 3 nightclubs on Mojaca Playa which came from the staff members living together and not practising any social distancing.  the clubs were closed and cleaned and the staff isolated.  some young people took it to Seville when they returned home.  They had a test centre by the football ground all last week but today it has gone.  I would say it is better here than anywhere else in Spain and definitely better than the coastal areas in the UK where the beaches where crowded.  nothing much closed here and mostly people are sensible.

Thanks for that informative response. We knew last week 34 had tested positive so that's actually a doubling in a week. However the changes are flexing both ways regularly in Spain like here. I think we've had 1009 new cases nationally whereas Spain is near 3 times that. We like you remain really positive of staying safe in the area and are swaying to coming. 👍

If you haven't been to mojacar since February 2020 how come you are so conversant with the behaviour of the residents/visitors?
