read Dario's numerous posts on this subject and don't make any quick decisions until you have thouroughly worked out what it may cost you financially in the future.  it's not as easy as just saying we are going to live in Spain anymore.

How do i look up Darios posts please, i am new to this forum

Hi Miket, and Kev and Sarah,

Not sure I whole heartedly agree with you Miket,  if you find a house by doing a 'virtual tour' then all you have to do is research it on Google Earth, I was saved from buying a house with a industrial pig farm near it years ago in Portugal thanks to Google Earth, there is no way I would hav...

...e found it walking around the area. I personally think buying a house thru Virtual tour backed up by Google Earth is the way to go, in these unsettling times.

Hi Jenni,

I don't disagree with you completely as I use Google earth a lot in my various researches and find it very good. It was also good to know that it helped you a while ago. There are of course limitations to what it can accurately show and it's not real time. I was also looking at a property, online, and also checked it's location on Google earth. The selling agent also had photos and the video tour which was helpful. BUT, what wide angle lens they use !. Completely distorts and exaggerates the internal views. I do accept they are useful tools but, in my opinion, you can not beat being there in person and getting a real feel for the house and the area. Only being there will give you  that 'gut feeling'.  It was once recommended to me that I should see the property and the area in both the summer and winter seasons

Which ever way Kev & Sarah do it I wish them all the best as Spain is still a great place to live in.

Regards, Mike

Hi Mike,

I agree, seeing the place first hand is the best policy, if virus permits, I do know what you mean about wide angle lenses, I think the estate should put on the description 'these pictures were taken with a wide angle lens.' When we have been looking for property we have always seen it in person and then gone home and did research of the area on google earth, your pretty much covered then. I have heard of several properties recently that have sold via a 'virtual tour' because the people couldn;t get here to see it because of lockdown and on a time limit re residencia. It would be interesting to ask them if when they got to see it for the first time, were they happy, or a big mistake.

Anyway have a nice day  Jenni

Hi Jenni,

Yes I guess the Covid situation has caused loads of unforeseen & unintended problem.

It would indeed be interesting to learn of the experience of others who made the decision to buy from simple photos or videos. Perhaps a few years ago it may have been the 'Buy of plan' situation - although thinking about it that was surely a riskier prospect (and another story)

Regards & stay safe.
