Are there many expats in Oria. Is it a good place to live. My husband and I are in our seventies. Any good or bad points about Oria would be appreciated.

Hi. I don't live in Oria itself but not far away. The scenery is very pretty and there are all the facilities you need for day to day living. It's a lovely little town. Albox is only about 20 minutes away which is a bigger town with lots of shops. As you're starting to get into the mountains the summers are slightly cooler than, say, Albox but the downside of this is that it can be very chilly in winter, and houses here are not built to British standards of insulation and heating! This is a really important point to bear in mind especially with soaring electricity prices. Also, as in any rural part of Spain, you will probably need to drive. If you don't want to have to drive then you could consider a coastal resort such as Mojacar or a larger town. With regards to British immigrants, yes there are lots of them.

Hi I Live in Oria on the campo, its a lovely place to live, it has everything you need, 24/7 medical centre, supermarkets including Carrefour, garden centre builders merchants, butchers, communal swimming pool,  everyone is friendly, the town hall speaks English, there are lots of ex pats and groups that meet up for various craft/chat. As regards to the weather as Juliet has say, cooler in the summer which is great when its up in the 40's, in the winter the evening and nights can be chilly, but the thing to remember is dont buy a new or purpose built property, it will have no insulation, buy an old property the walls will be 3' thick, have a wood burner installed and you will be toastie. I have an old cortijo which has 15 rooms and one wood burner that heats the whole house in the winter. Good luck

Thank you, the cooler summers are a welcome and I'm sure there is less humidity than what we have here in Cabo Roig. We're quite used to the chilly winters as we lived in Johannesburg for 30 years. We're looking at living in the surrounding areas of Oria. A few expats is good news.

I live in Oria village and agree with all that has been mentioned.  We do not need any form of heating May to Sept, most years October to January it does get chill/cold once the sun goes down.  This year our worse months were March and April, but in saying that we did have nice weeks in between. I save my heating money from the summer which almost covers the cooler months. I have lived in the village for 11 years, my husband died after only two years here, because of the friendly village and friends I would never dream of moving back to the UK.  I am now 75 and I am enjoying living in Oria and in Spain.

Thanks for the great information very helpful. However an old house wouldn't suit us we have to have a bungalow, no steps, I've got bad arthritis. We hope to be coming down mid June when we'll be doing some viewings. Hope we'll be able to meet up with the people who have replied to me later in the year when we are resident there. Everything that has been said is positive, we just need a quiet life away from the tourist trail.

I would never move back to the UK. We left UK in 1982, went to South Africa. Had two years in Brisbane, Australia in 1995 to 1997 and then back to S.A.. Moved to Spain in 2016.

You have had a great busy life, do expect this to be the last move or are you thinking about another adventure
