I am looking at buying our new home in Oria, unfortunately due to my work in the UK I cannot join her immediately, is there a focus group for expats etc that she can join?.

We have 2 little yorkie terriers that will be with her and as I won't be able to visit every week I would really like to know she will be in a friendly family atmosphere.

We have found a perfect house but with this current situation we are relying on a virtual tour before making an offer, can anyone confirm I am doing the right thing! I have a solicitor ready to go there and will have everything in place in the next couple of weeks.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Kev

Hi Kev,

not any groups I've heard of except Almanzora Group of Friends in Albox but not really what you are after I don't think. There are some craft and music groups that can be joined, again mainly Albox, Arboleas way.  Maybe sign up for the free Spanish lessons if space available in Oria?

I've found it very hit n miss here, wouldn't live anywhere else but can be a case of if your face fits.  I'm on my own in Oria but no offers of a coffee/beer or come round for a coffee but then had I been a woman that may be different.  My partner in Albox is amongst English neighbours and not one checked to see if she was ok or needed anything during lockdown.

There are some lovely people out here from all nations so am sure your wife will be fine and enjoy the area whatever the outcome.

Andy.

I have lived in oria for eight years, my husband died two years after we arrived.  Therefore I have live here for six years in my own.  The people here are lovely and once you get to know them they are very helpful.  I would help you and your wife meet people and settle in. Meeting in bars at the moment can be difficult owing to the pandemic but I belong to a sewing group who are only meeting for coffee mornings at the moment.  Once your wife is settled in she would be able to invite the other ladies around for coffee to get to know everyone.  You only need to ask and we are here to help.  I will private message you with my email and phone number

Hi Andy

do not be on your own, if you want to meet for a coffee just let me know.  No groups are meeting in the bars at the moment but when they start meeting up I will let you know so you can join us.

Hi Andy,

Many thanks for your response, I'm sure when I'm there we can meet up for that beer and maybe a bit of a party, covid dependent of course.

Hi Kev and Sarah.

As others have already said there are plenty of expats in this part of Spain and most will be pleased to help you and your wife settle in to a lovely way of life here. This forum being a great place to assist you.

I would  just have  a word of caution regarding your relying on a virtual tour of your perfect house. Don't rely on it any more than you would rely on just photos of a house advertised here or in the UK.. Video and photos will show you what the seller or agent wants you to see. It may not show you other stuff you might not be to happy living near.

Take the trouble to come over and see it in person before committing yourself to such an important purchase. There is a lot of property available, make sure it really is right for you both and the dogs !!

At this stage I assume you know the situation regarding you status in Spain after the 31 Dec 2020 (?)

Best wishes

read Dario's numerous posts on this subject and don't make any quick decisions until you have thouroughly worked out what it may cost you financially in the future.  it's not as easy as just saying we are going to live in Spain anymore.

Hi Miket, and Kev and Sarah,

Not sure I whole heartedly agree with you Miket,  if you find a house by doing a 'virtual tour' then all you have to do is research it on Google Earth, I was saved from buying a house with a industrial pig farm near it years ago in Portugal thanks to Google Earth, there is no way I would have found it walking around the area. I personally think buying a house thru Virtual tour backed up by Google Earth is the way to go, in these unsettling times.

Regards  Jenni
