Correct - once the NLV is granted, you are no longer subject to the 90 day rule.  The NLV is a long-term visa

yes in aware of that but I was saying if say I go and rent in November and am NOT granted the NLV I will then have no where to come back to AND will have to LEAVE after 90 days

Hi, Foxylady2. Sounds like you may have to wait until the visa is approved to be safe.

True !

Various consulates in the USA require a signed rental contract as part of the application process , which often means folks have laid out 4 months or more ahead of visa processing with no guarantees ! And sight unseen . That said I don't know of anyone who has failed their NLV in these situations but it is not unusual for TCN's to expend quite a bit before even getting here :-(  , usually a couple months rent basically lost .

Good luck.

Got all my paperwork together, including health insurance. One rumour I heard on another forum was that you have to pay for your visa upfront, i.e, £516 and if your application is turned down, you lose that. Surely that is not the case, isn't there an application fee and then when approved you pay the £516 when you collect it?

Anyone had any experience of this?

Thanks,

Michael.

... if you’re in the country and renting, it’s because you already HAVE the NLV.  You can’t apply for NLV from within Spain, you must obtain NLV before coming

I cant believe that the Spanish government is making it soooo hard to go there as a retired couple....bearing in mind we will be putting money INTO the economy not taking out arghhhh lol.

I think what may be the best...if not the cheapest way.... is to put it all into the hands of a solicitor over there to save all the hassle and worry.

Hi Michael

Unfortunately yes if not approved no money back as yes you do have to pay the fee upfront which is what we have done!  Now a waiting game 😔.

Thanks Mandy. I guess if everything is accepted it should be fine.

Sorry for all these questions, but has any filled in the self assessment form 790-052, I'm a little confused as to what this is for? Is it for payment of the visa?

Translation is a little confusing.
