yet another anti Brit statement from DM,did Germany wear the armbnd /did any other country wear the armband? DID Spain wear the armband,as for not honouring agreements ask Spain about Gibraltar

There are so many talking points around Qatar being awarded the tournament - gay rights, deaths of thousands of workers, Middle East Human Rights, Womens’ Rights etc. Qatar spokespeople are adamant laws in that country must be obeyed. Budweiser waved its big advertising spending there and suddenly the sale of alcohol within the stadia was allowed. The thousands of workers who lost their lives in construction projects will never be properly addressed. Human Rights as we know them don’t matter in places like Qatar and once the WC Finals end they’ll be back to their form of normality. Womens’ Issues will take a back seat too.

I don’t know anybody who supported Qatar’s award of the Finals outside of FIFA or Qatar, both of course honest and upstanding, I think not. When the competition ends it will be hailed as a success and Qatar can resume its dreadful treatment of its minorities without fear of further influence from outside. Captains armbands, Rainbow flags, Sale of Alcohol, Refusal to sing anthems etc will mean nothing. The issues are anti mankind not anti England.

Oh ffs.  Please, take your lies about me being anti-Brit and shove them up where the sun doesn’t shine.  I’m NOT anti-Brit, I’m anti-ars*hole.  If you are picking up negative vibes from me, you know why.

Enough of these “anti-Brit” lies now; or I will cut loose and start telling a few home truths.

so the England team are ar5holes

your post

Iran showed England up by refusing to sing their National Anthem, whilst England buckled and didn’t wear the armband.  Weak. Piss weak.

As for “it’s coming home”?

Well Harty old son … they may well do.  Unlike you though … I have a mind.

No. I don’t like football; not even a little bit.  When pressed by others in previous years as to what team I followed, I invariably answered Notts Forest because … Robin Hood and because that’s where my girlfriend at the time was living, and because when asked it equally invariably shut down any conversation about football.  Was I true supporter? Mmmmm let’s see … did I know the manager? No. Did I know the names of any of the players? No. Did I even know what division they were in? Not really - dimly aware they were division 3, or 4 or maybe 2 - not Division 1 though.  Did I care about my lack of knowledge? No. Not even a little bit.

I sort of kind of a little bit follow the World Cup cos my brother-in-law INSISTS on talking about football and my claim to be a Notts Forest supporter doesn’t scare him away.  So I remain sort of aware that teams are playing, some get eliminated, that Spain won first game 7 - 0 and drew 1 - 1 against Germany.  I’m also aware Japan is a secret powerhouse and whilst England will be going home at some point, it’s very unlikely to be with the cup.  Why? 🤷‍♂️ because for the past ‘n’ many years they just haven’t fielded a team that can do it.  Last World Cup they came close, getting into the finals - but I watched that match (I was working in a bar then) and they choked.  They were beaten by a better team …. despite the die hard supporters claiming afterwards “they was robbed” … no, they really weren’t

Am I anti-England team? Not really - I still maintain they were shown up by the Iranians they were playing. And ALL teams are being shown the lead in how to behave by the Japanese team and it’s supporters

Another reasonable post ruined once again by this vitriol . Get a grip and just be civil . I fully agree with the hype before and after the game . Ten minutes before and same after that’s enough especially on the games that don’t really have any meaning to itv and bbc viewers as each country is televising matches . I used to play football as a youngster and followed it but when they introduced the premiership and all the money that’s involved I’ve lost interest . Football players transfers at £100 million and £500 thousand a week absolutely disgusting . Mr H , you are right about the Arab money in horse racing , it’s a job to compete against it but the best horses still come out of Ireland , especially over the sticks . That’s why I enjoy watching sports like golf, snooker , boxing and athletics which are individual sports and if your not good enough all the money in the world isn’t help . Never the less I would like England to win if not Spain .

Devo, You are 100% correct. Football has become a business (notice I didn't say sport) for overpaid planks. They take dvies and even some insist on refereeing matches and even dictation who should get a yellow or red card. The television pundits cash in on the business too. One of the BBC commentators spent 45 + mins before he noticed a team had started a different goalkeeper.

The womens' football seems to be going the same direction although slower with less dives and faking. One footballer said she had to concentrate on the ability to take dives.

Like you said Devo, nothing like National Hunt Racing and noting like the Grand National, Aintree and Cheltenham and of course Leopardstown, Punchestown, etc. Good honest sport (well some of it anyway).

We have Wales V England in the World Cup today - I suppose it's worth giving it a miss.

I will watch it with a pint of milk and a box of Maltesers feet up and heating blasting away . Where as our overpaid pampered professional footballer, I take my hat off to our national hunt jockeys .They must surely be the toughest individuals in the sporting world . Out in all weathers , rain mud , sleet and snow wether actually racing at meetings or riding out early mornings getting the horses fit and travelling the length and breadth of the country. As in most sports the top professionals earn good money but the further down the rankings you go the harder it gets and one bad fall can be the end of a career . I know our Jenni doesn’t approve of racing but the bulk of the people who work in racing or any horse discipline do it because they love the animals . Just watch the grooms that lead their horses in and care for them everyday and see the pride and love they have for their charges . Now that’s sport

Looks like it’ll be England V Senegal in the first of games that matter. Six minutes of time added on being played though.
