FIFA World Cup Finals in Qatar - Thoughts & Chat
World Cup 2022 has started with more talk about non sport items than sport items. I suppose it is a bit much to think that sport and politics could be seperated, but where there is sport, there is controversy and the sport takes a back seat. But, great that it all has started. Talk of captains' armbands, taking the knee, LGBTQS issues, deaths during construction, Qatar's human rights issues, anything but football. Great to see Germany have to compete in the next two rounds; wonderful to see Canada threatening Belgium; nice to see Argentina beaten by Saudi Arabia. England look good. Wales are boxing above their weight. African nations excelling too.
. . . . and most of all distraction from the dreaded ongoing mundane facts and figures of the world. Nice to see more female officials than in previous World Cups.
Pundits:- Graeme Souness appears bland as ever.
ITV Commentaries:- Bland as Souness.
BBC Commentaries and Pundits:- Haven't seen or listened to yet but couldn't possibly be as bad as ITV.
