Nunca se es demasiado viejo; solo tienes que querer para aprender.  Puedes hacerlo si realmente quieres šŸ˜

Returning (briefly?) to the original theme of the thread - two items caught my eye this morning.  The first was in Northamptonshire where police broke up a party of around 40 - 50 guests, with a marquee and beer on tap.  Really observing lock down and social distancing there.

The second was an interesting piece from someone returning to UK from New Zealand.  She outlined how when transiting through Australia, they were taken off the plane family by family, given a health questionnaire, had to sanitize hands, given mask and gloves and then placed in a quarantined area with only a vending machine for 8 hours until next flight.

She contrasts that with arriving in UK at Heathrow ... no checks, no social distancing , no .... anything at all.  There was no information on Covid, it was almost as if it was no different to any other day, with people arriving from around the world - and departing - with absolutely nothing in place to check the spread.  Driving home, she noted there were plenty of people out and about, lots of cars, and no sign of any police .

Why is this relevant to us? Well, there are those that will say that it just goes to prove how safe and uninfected UK is; weā€™ll ignore those because that is .... well itā€™s a nice thought, but itā€™s not reality.  It affects us, because if countries are lax in preventing the spread, itā€™s really not going to be too long before a carrier - possibly even asymptomatic - arrives and everything starts again.

Today is a big day.  Pedro Sanchez is asking Congress of Deputies to authorize another two week extension to State of Alarm.  It is by no means certain heā€™ll get it, as he is meeting stiff resistance from PP and Ciudadanos (not even worth mentioning Vox).  If he fails today, State of Alarm ends 9 May, and thereafter there is no authority to confine people, restrict movement or keep the borders closed..... I will be watching the news today for sure.

Should be interesting to see what happens in the Congreso today then.Would seem stupid if the lockdown gets terminated by in house politics.Everything starts as before, the figures rocket up again and we have wasted all the good that's been achieved over the past 2 months....

Me too, guess the figures for deaths in the UK will be up in the 600's again today with their stupid lockdown rules probably to blame...

And Prof Neil Ferguson, the epidemiologist whose modelling helped shape the UK's lockdown strategy, has quit as a Gov minister after flouting the rules by receiving visits from his lover.

1. I don't know how the Spanish government will react today regarding extending the lockdown or lifting it. Whatever they do I hope it is the right decision because if they get it wrong Spain will be in worse trouble. I hope Senor Sanchez extends the lockdown and ensures that it is enforced more rigidly.

2. I understand the UK has now surpassed the Covid-19 death toll of Italy (Nobody believed this possible with some exceptions here). The writing was on the wall at least two months ago. Even some of us posted warnings. But, the London Underground was allowed to operate squeezing as many commuters as possible into the smallest space. Cheltenham Racing Festival was allowed to go ahead along with other sporting events. Schools were left partially open despite schools being completely shut in other european countries. However, I'm not going to hammer home our points of view which have been proved correct.

3. Remember the Panama Hat Brigade (now hunkering down smugly by their drive on lawnmowers back in the UK begging for the lunch-times on their Spanish terraces where they scoffed Lidl gin* and Consum tonic (*poured from Gordons bottles) while pontificating "The UK Government will get it just about right." The reality is they could not have got it more wrong. Worse again the idiots do not even question their thoughts.

4. We have Prof Ferguson following Dr Calderwood's bad example and ignoring the lockdown. Where's the "We are all in this together" thinking now?

5. Still we have people informing us that their beauty parlour or dog grooming salon is more important than the health of the under threat  population. Are they so stupid that they don't realise we are in a pandemic? How many more Covid-19 deaths will it take for them to see some sense? I'm reminded of the whiskey drinking senior officers from the comfort of their safe officers mess ordering the front-line cannon-fodder forward in WW1.

Just one tiny mistake, and im not criticizing, its how people learn!! Its el idioms, not la.

I obviously hope this doesn't get extended again,it my birthday on Tuesday,a beer or 2 at my local bar would be very nice but indeed seems unlikely!!

More Brits should take a leaf from Dario's book and learn Spanish, like he said,if you have the want to learn then you will!

There has to be a balance. If you just hunker in your bunker for too long Nations economies will collapse with the cost of more life and misery for all.

You are right about the UK though! The U.K. government was complacent and got it badly wrong! And for some unknown reason most of the great British public still support them! Andy
