There are common themes when the debate on here becomes personal.  In other threads too.  By that, I mean the individuals concerned.

And strangely, it is usually those who want to promulgate some weird conspiracy theory that seem to end up becoming insulting.

At the risk of returning to the subject, some statistics, but before I begin (to avoid others having to type):

1. ‘There are lies, damned lies and statistics’

2. 72% of all statistics are made up on the spot (my favourite)

The UK overtook Italy with the death count (i.e. number of deaths) yesterday

Deaths per million population: UK: 433, Italy: 485, Spain: 553, Belgium: 720

Weird?

However, Boris and Co are talking about easing measures.  Why does my head hurt every time I read the news at the moment?  Is there some logic to this that simply eludes me?  The best I can currently come up with is ‘at least we aren’t in the US’ but that is wearing thin.

Spanish version of the above available on request, albeit a touch ‘pigeon’.

I think Boris is right to ease the lockdown. There is a direct correlation between the economy and death. If the economy crashes there will be many more deaths and distress to come irrespective of the coronavirus.

The virus is a terrible tragedy especially for those that have lost their lives or the lives of family members but bad shit happens all the time. 150,000 people a year die of cancer in the U.K. but there’s not much point in living if you spend all your time worrying about what might happen.

Everything in life is a risk. My advice is take precautions you feel comfortable with, abide by the law of the land and live your life!

OK! Andy, Risks by their nature are risky (sorry for stating the obvious) but some risks have more grave results than others. Covid-19 is a Mass Killer and Wants to Kill You. You can't look at it in any other way and if you drop your guard the chances are you'll become infected.

I know the lockdowns in europe cannot continue forever. But, we've come a long way and in relative terms we don't have to much longer to go. It would be a disaster to stop now.

Yes, I can see that. No point in rushing it too much but (for once!) I’m in agreement with the govt that technology and hard graft on the ground with contact tracing is the way forward.

That way spikes can be controlled at a local level, the economy can get working again and the general public can get on with their lives (albeit with some sensible precautions).

I have lived with a heart condition and cancer so I am well aware life is fragile. I’ll try and balance risk and precaution as best I can and carry on living.

Keep safe and hope to be back in Spain soon!

Just one tiny mistake, and im not criticizing, its how people learn!! Its el idioms, not la.

I obviously hope this doesn't get extended again,it my birthday on Tuesday,a beer or 2 at my local bar would be very nice but indeed seems unlikely!!

More Brits should take a leaf from Dario's book and learn Spanish, like he said,if you have the want to learn then you will!

Good morning Jen Jen and all.   I just want to apologise for saying it was ignorant to have a conversation in Spanish and starting a whole new conversation taking the focus away from the original post.   Today is another frustrating one. Let’s hope it’s over soon.  Stay safe you and your family and all here on the forum.

Lol! It did get a little heated but pleased to report that all is now calm.

Possibly a case of cabin fever?!
