There's nobody press-ganging anybody into applying for an Irish passport. It is fairly easy procedure and a way round many problems of British expats  living in Spain. You don't have to give up supporting England in the Euro Championship. You don't even have to drink Guinness (comes in full pints too!). The amount of British citizens claiming Irish passports currently can be measured in thousands. Many of them probably never set foot in Ireland. A simple way of looking at this is backing two horses (joint favourites) in a two horse race. I know one thing, if Ireland voted to leave the EU and the UK was remaining, I would be applying for a UK passport. I think I would be stupid not to. But, if you don't think an Irish passport is for you, no problem for us, but save us the tears when the starting gate door in Alicante airport doesn't open for you.

OK! Immigration was not the only issue on show for the Brexit referendum. Try and tell that to the immigration population of the UK. But, we all know, there is no racism in the UK. Ask any Asian, African, South American, Eastern European, Spaniard or Paddy.

UK citizens that are tax resident in Spain (here for 183 days in the tax year Jan-Dec) have their pensions and all income taxed in Spain. A tax declaration of assets has to be filed by 31 March and tax paid by 30 June.

To be fair, Maccer from Manchester most likely voted Remain - as Manchester did.

Much of which you yourself spouted :-D

But there will be a green button below, marked “turn off email notifications”

It starts a two year waiting period after which notifications may, or may not, be turned off.  Or partially turned off, or sent to you but with flowery borders or some other compromise

Leaving the EU does not mean leaving Europe, they are 2 different entity’s.  The Nations of Europe are so different in their culture and way of life, that is what makes them so pleasant to visit and live in.  The EU on the other hand is a very undemocratic organisation hell bent on stripping all European Nations of their sovereignty and all that makes them so different.  I have worked and lived in many different European Nations, not all of them members of the EU, and have enjoyed the experiences immensely.  I current live in France, have done for 5 years where I am resident, and recently bought a home in Spain to where I shall eventually retire.  The UK being a member or not of the EU will have no bearing on the decision.  I too voted to leave the EU as I believe it has done nought for the UK over the past 45 years other than decimate its manufacturing base by encouraging businesses to relocate to mainly eastern European Nations.  There are many other nationalities living in both France and Spain whose Countries of birth are not within the EU and yet they seem to get along just fine so what difference will it make once the UK leaves?  Irrespective of how you voted 17.4 million citizens of the UK voted to leave, a majority, and that decision needs to be respected if democracy is to mean anything going forward.

With all due respect rasclemate, much of what you say is simply not true, many businesses relocated long before the referendum, supported in doing so by the EU.  I believe you come from the school of 'scaremongering' so expect no less from you.

17.4 million, 52% is a majority of those who voted, fact.  How many times have MPs been elected to parliament with fewer than 40% of the popular vote and how many times have Governments been formed, with large majorities in the Commons, with less than 40% of the popular vote.  Its called democracy, first past the post UK style.  You cannot simply call foul and expect another vote because you lost, if that were the case we would be re running General elections every time. For the record you also need to check the true figures for the London march (grossly inflated) and look at those who have signed, sometimes on numerous occasions, the petition to cancel article 50.

The whole argument that leavers seem to hang their hat on of “17.4 million voted to leave” *yawn* blah blah blah .... there is a STRONG indication that many have now changed their mind, that the Brexit they voted for is NOT what is being delivered.  As I’ve said before, 17.4 million in a country of 60+ million is NOT an “overwhelming” majority by any standard - so let’s have another vote and see what the country says now that more facts are at hand.  Let the chips fall as they may

Erm........did I read in the Daily Mail this morning that the petition signed by whatever means that garnered some 5 million votes is to be discounted and ignored by mp's ?? Mmmmmmmm

Democracy or dictatorial or just plain high handedly ignoring the voters ?? They (mp's) know what's best for the minions. As I've said before, bring on a general election and give the voters a say in "who knows best" !!

As for the starting gates not opening at Alicante ?? As far as I'm concerned Alicante airport could just be a galaxy far far away, dont like it, dont use it have only helped out friends in going to pick them up when their departure airport pulls up Ali pally as the only option.

As for the last paragraph by Matthew above, shades of sarcasm showing through ?? , I'd suggest there's less racism and more intolerance that migrants are being given benefits, cash in hand, houses etc etc, blah blah without having contributed one penny jnto the coffers then seem to think they have every right to claim.
