we waited 7 weeks for electric and water , thank god we were in a rental at that time, it is pit fall after pit fall BUT STILL WORTH IT IN THE END
Appears that different areas, you get different results. My Solicitor has told me that the water will be connected within 3/4 days as it is organised locally, the electrical connection is when they get round to it but usually 2-3 weeks. We will see. I am renting as I also have a kitchen to fit and may turn one of the bedrooms into another bathroom.

Ahhh yes … welcome to Spain Andy. Don’t stress too much - you only have to have commenced TIE application within 30 days, not completed it, so as long as your representative has presented initial documents online, you’ve complied with that requirement.
Quite often they will say that it takes “15 days” but that’s a cover yer bum type of clause. For example, I contracted Digi for internet and they said “within 15 days you’ll be connected”, but the day after I signed the contract, Telefonica arrived to run the external fibre opti...

...c, and the day after that Digi techs arrived to do internal installation and plug in the router. Now running a 1 GB/s connection for 30€ per month. Thank you Digi.
Managed to get hold of someone at Iberdrola earlier, but I have to ring back later because their system is having “challenges” …….
Many thanks

Hello.
I know it’s very early doors , but I would be really interested to know if anyone has applied for non lucrative residency this year , or intends to. In particular if you’re below the UK retirement ages and are just on a private pension.

Hi, I have mentioned this before on the forum. It appears to be different strokes for different folk. We applied for and NLV on 20 June and only had our interview on 28 September. All was good except the fact that 2 words were missing in the wording of our Doctors Medical certificates (letters). We were told that we had to get replacement certificates and have started the laborious process of getting a new letter, getting it legalised at the FC&DO and translated but I have managed get them out in post in three days (from the doctor to FC&DO and translator). A few things have changed for the good in Consulate procedure, a few months ago our application would have been rejected and be told to re-apply but they are continuing with our application, so it should in theory, not hinder the process and they will add the certificates when we post them to the Consulate. Another major change is that they gave us our passports back and all we have to do is turn up for stamping, when we receive an email from them. This means we we return to Spain now and fly back when we need to, we also have a month after the email is received to have the passports stamped. That means we can plan our trip to suit us.

Hi again, Just an update on our NLV. We have been given the go ahead for our Visa, subject to us appearing at the Consulate with our amended medical certificate and they will stamp our passports at that time.
With regard to finances, they appeared very relaxed about how the requirements were met, a combination of owing a property out in Spain, pensions and savings, although they did not want to discuss how they calculated each element but owing a property appeared to be a considerable factor.
We have the water connection now but the electricity is now moving into its 4 week and a further completion is apparently there are 3 houses with the same address! But I can only think it is a matter of elimination. However I was at the property yesterday and opened the meter box and was shocked at the state of it there are cables ends without protection and the system is very old with 2 large fuses on the supply side, actually what should be fuses but instead they are two pieces of 22 mm copper pipe cut to fit, a direct lightening strike would not blow those…. The connections were also very corroded and I can see how they can connect without a completely new board. Which brings we on to a question to ask you all: Do any of you know a place we can rent for the short term that would rent on a week by week basis? There is just the 2 of us and no pets. We have no idea when will have power so cannot move in and we are currently in self-catering accommodation, nice but very expensive. Alternatively a short term fix for getting the power on, I have considered buying/renting a generator but cannot see how it can connect into the house system.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Morning Andy, great news about the NLVs being approved. With regards the state of your electric box … welcome to Spain!! Your challenge also will arise probably because the supply address will differ from the actual physical address, as the supply address is the physical location of the box.
Has the house had power before? If so there will be a CUPS number assigned which is the unique identifier of that box. That being said, if it is a change of owner and supply company, it can get confusing. However do you know the CUPS number? Your solicitor should be able to find that. They are printed on the bills, but I don’t know if you’d have access to an old electricity bill.
don’t try running a generator into the house - I’m surprised that there is a certificate of habitation with the electric box in that state. Whichever company you have chosen should send a technician who will likely replace the meter with a Smart meter as that seems to be the way they are going now. But in any event, a technician should come out and sort it out.
With regards renting, coming into off-season, there should be plenty of places available now. I see you are in Lubrin area? I don’t know anything at all round there, but could point you in the right direction if you were prepared to be in Vera / Vera Playa area for a short while

Hi Dario, thank you for your response, there is no cups as the property, although 10 or so years old has never been lived in. The solicitor is on the case and they been told that a “technician” will go out and asses but that has been nearly 4 weeks and nothing yet. Good to hear that they may replace the unit as it is completely unserviceable. I also get the point on the generator, just checking if there was anyone out there who has either done it of knows of it. Desperate times require.. etc. We are flexible on location, currently in Mojacar so not far from Vera but we would look at anything up to a 45-60 min drive to Lubrin area, we do not need to go there much as most of the things we can do, have been done.

Hi, the process has apparently become more simplified and shorter as it appears the Spanish authorities have streamlined their processes at the Consulates in the UK. As I understand it at the present time, you will still need to attend a Consulate twice, once to present your application and the second time to have your passport stamped with the Visa. The Visa is the allows you to start the process of your TIE (residency) card here. This may sound a long-winded process but I can assure you it will not be as difficult as our process, that took more than 6 months and was like pulling teeth. I have helped a couple of people and their process was far easier. If you private message me, I will pass on your details and hopefully they will help you as they are probably in a better position. They will also pass on who can help in the UK with regard to some aspects of the paperwork required. I do not want to sound negative but I suggest that you do not engage with people in Spain who offer this service as all 3 of us (ourselves and the people I have helped) found that they were not up to speed and have mishandled and/or just passed a lot (at considerable cost) back to the UK and you have to do a lot of it yourself anyway.
