Summer 2021 is almost dead in the water - even on Easter Sunday (4th April)  it's easy to predict.

Although, Matthew, you are probably correct in your comment, i always look forward to the positivity of your comments. :)

It is looking that way, however places like Andalucia could have a 'bounce' in winter sun holidays,

Mojacar and the surrounding resorts could do well BUT and it is a BIG BUT it can only do so if the Junta give tax breaks to the airlines to fly into the local airports especially Almeria and if the hotels open up.

Having said all that it depends also on the control of the Virus and vaccinations in Spain

Not that simple CJ. I'll explain in more detail tomorrow. And Stu, I regret to say I'm almost most certainly right once again.

It doesn’t help that Government have put Autónomo up quite severely - ours jumps from 308€ per person to 436€ per person - any small businesses that are struggling on may get sent to the wall, and even large businesses that have multiple employees are going to feel that pinch - it’s not conducive to hotels staying open and keeping staff employed.  They’ll be cutting staff anyway and looking to cease the contracts as early after the summer season ends as possible; restaurants / chiringuitos will be hit harder as they won’t have quite as much capital to cover the increased Autónomo of their staff

The Covid vaccination is the only game in town. But, we don't know what variants will strike next week never mind next month or next season. Here's the situation in RoI as I write. Anybody travelling into Ireland from or even through heavily infected countries must isolate for two weeks  in a hotel and pay before arriving into the country (€1800+). It doesn't matter if you're starting your journey from such a country; even if you use an airport in that country you must still pay for two weeks in an official quarantine hotel;.

That's the boring bit. From early May it appears that people arriving into Ireland from France, Germany and Italy will have to isolate in a similar manner. The EU is raising eyebrows, but RoI is bent on applying the policy. .I can see Spain doing the same. I would hope this procedure is not for long, but (like CJ said above) it appears the restrictions will last into late 2021 at least.

So, you have your two vaccinations and you think Spain will welcome you. I would hope that you're right. But, vaccinated people can carry the virus and infect others. The vaccine roll-out is slow in every country of the EU. When do you think all of Spain will be "fully" vaccinated? I reckon only then will borders be open to foreign tourists. Sorry to bring the bad news.

Let's say Spain welcomes you in June, July, August and you come in your droves. For argument's sake let's say Spain gets added to the "Red" List while you are there. What if your mother country informs you for your return you must self isolate in a designated hotel at your own cost for no less than two weeks?

I would welcome posts from anybody with a contra view showing cogent reasons why they think Spain will open to foreign tourists in summer 2021..

I am glad ROI is being tough good for them,

as you say vaccination is only HELPFULL if the vast majority take it up,as I have said before vaccination is not the same innoculation.

For me being in the UK it makes my blood boil when EU countries are limiting the use of Astra Zeneca then saying we will limit the export of it

we are lucky in the UK that we are now down to vaccinating the early 50s, other parts of the EU are still in the 70s.

For me personally I MIGHT consider coming to Mojacar in December BUT it will depend on Spains actions

Well done the ROI, other Nations should follow suit in my opinion.  ‘Staycation’ 2021 should be the norm I feel. I say this with some sadness as we had many friends and family members who were due to visit his year.

Staycation would be the best thing for all,

help stop the spread

help stop variants

and importantly help out businesses that have taken a hammering and also putting money back into the Govs coffers

The government in RoI have indicated today that its plans to restrict EU countries and USA to the Red List have been cancelled.
