1. When I started this thread it was solely as a place of information which would answer some questions regarding the UK leaving the EU. I had no idea that some personal conflicts would arise along the way. Also, I pointed out that I was not commenting on the subject. As far as I'm concerned the UK will leave the EU finally on 31st December 2020. I wish it was remaining in the EU but the reality is the UK will be outside of the "club" in a few months.
2. Having jumped out of bed after several days of heavy Irish rain and looking forward to my daily swim in the Atlantic where I can nearly smell the food being cooked in the restaurants of our next parish in Devon & Cornwall, I noticed 60+ bells on the forum. I thought I was voted person-of-the-year in SE Spain.
3. World War 2 ended in 1945 although who won and who lost is debatable when everything is settled. But, in deference to many contributing here I'll go along that the Allies won the war. Sincerely, I hope we will never see the likes of such a war again. The Nazis committed some dreadful atrocities and the Allies didn't cover themselves in glory at all times either. But, history is written by the victors. And there's much more to be written eventually.
4. I don't see the UK seeking EU membership again in my lifetime. But, somebody pointed out a newspaper article suggesting ROI would leave the EU. It was written by Ms Dudley-Edwards (an Irish lady resident for years in the UK) and originally printed in the Belfast Telegraph. While I enjoy some of Ms Dudley-Edwards writing (and that of her father) to me she appears out of touch with modern Ireland. Ireland will not leave the EU in my lifetime and probably the lifetime of our off-spring. Not many in ROI would give much credence to what the Belfast Telegraph prints (but that is for another day).
5. A United Nations of Europe is on the cards, but again not during my lifetime. When it happens I reckon it will be a good thing and will favour most EU citizens (and probably will stop us squabbling with each other). But, like it or not, it is the way to go. Inevitably, it will happen and before it does I predict the UK will have applied for EU membership again. I predict that then the GBP£ will be scuttled in favour of the Euro. Before anybody informs me the GBP£ is sacrosanct please note its demise will not happen during the course of our lives.
6. I wish the UK only the best on its departure from the EU. I wish it was not going to happen, but it will and of that there is no doubt. Brits living in the EU will be treated fairly and squarely and they have the choice of being British and European simultaneously. Long may that last and long may it be that we debate the merits and demerits.
