I have not checked the position regarding driving through France yet ... which is next on the list :-)

If I find anything worth sharing I will put it on here.

Thanks..any information is really useful..we will need to drive because we have a dog with us..do you know who you actually apply to  locally if we need to stay longer than end March?

Spain declared a State of Alarm back in October, which is due to run until May 9th 2021.  Extensions have been granted to anyone who finds themselves with a residence permit, long stay visa, or visa free 90 day deadline, expiring.

With regard to the 90 day requirement the wording states "Extension of initial visa-free stay - expiry of the 90-day deadline - Those expiring during the state of alarm are extended for 3 additional months"....

...

My understanding therefore is that if you find yourself unable to leave Spain, and return to your place of residence, you have until early August to make arrangements.  Which lessens the difficulty of trying to find flights or ferries and organising PCR tests.  And more importantly lessens the likelihood of spreading or contracting the virus on your journey.

Thanks..who would  you apply to ( in Mojacar Playa) to get the three months extension?

As far as I can tell you can contact the "Mojácar councillor for foreigners" here:

The State of Alarm applies to the autonomous communities only, it is not a national alarm. There are regular flights from Malaga to London and Manchester for U.K. citizen visitors to exit Spain before their 90 days is up near the end of March.

It’s a big risk to stay longer, if you overstay there is the potential for fines and a ban on returning not just to Spain but to any EU country.

For drivers, as a U.K. citizen you may pass through France to return to your home country, taking a direct route. The 6pm curfew in France must be adhered to. There are Ibis Budget hotels close to the Autoroute that accept dogs, we have used them several times. You will require a negative Covid test to drive in France, although there is no staffed Spain-France border there is always the risk of spot checks so best to get a test before you cross. You will need a negative test within 72 hours of passing through Calais for Tunnel or ferry. Once in U.K. you have to self-isolate for ten days at your destination and pre-book two govt tests whilst that happens.

We are planning such a Spain-U.K. trip for essential reasons quite soon, also with our dog. He has a Spanish pet passport and has had the rabies jab. A worming by the vet must be certified on the pet passport within 5 days of the crossing.

Good luck!

Chris

Thanks for this Chris which is helpful.

We are in the position of having (with dog) to get back to UK before the end of March but as I say, I would not advocate overstayng at all without going through due process and receiving approval from the authorities.

It will be interesting to see what happens say early March as to how open things are panning out at that point, especially as there is talk of France going into national lockdown, borders closing, Spain being added to the UK Gov 'red list' etc. Not saying any of this is going to happen but it is entirely prudent to look at all options (including getting approval to stay beyond the 90 day limit).

It would be useful to know where you pkan to get tested afore crossing into France; and if you dont get to Calais from that point within 3 days would you plan to get another test before crossing to UK?
