I have now found quite a few places containing EU information stating that the Schengen and EU countries now have in place processes to extend the stay of anyone stranded because of Covid movement restrictions, and if fact have been informed just to contact "Mojacars' Councillor for Foreigners"..
As an example I found this informatuion on the Schengen Visa site ...
" ... the guidelines advise the Member Countries not to penalize non-EU travellers who cannot leave the EU on time due to travel restrictions, but rather to prolong their permitted stay in the EU.
“For travellers currently present in the Schengen Area on a short-stay visa who are compelled to stay longer than their visa allows them to, Member States may extend the visa up to a maximum stay of 90 days in any 180 days,” the guidelines read.
At the same time, short-stay visa holders and those travelling visa-free who have to stay beyond 90 days in any 180 days, the Commission recommends granting these travellers with a long-stay visa or a temporary residence permit.
In addition, the Commission asserts that overstays linked to COVID-19 travel restrictions should not be taken into account by the Schengen Members when processing future visa applications.
While some of the Member States, as France and Germany, who have automatically extended visas and period of stay for those unable to leave, others have advised foreigners remaining in their territory to contact the responsible bodies for visa extension. ..."
