Thanks for this Chris which is helpful.
We are in the position of having (with dog) to get back to UK before the end of March but as I say, I would not advocate overstayng at all without going through due process and receiving approval from the authorities.

It will be interesting to see what happens say early March as to how open things are panning out at that point, especially as there is talk of France going into national lockdown, borders closing, Spain being added to the UK Gov 'red list' etc. Not saying any of this is going to happen but it is entirely prudent to look at all options (including getting approval to stay beyond the 90 day limit).
It would be useful to know where you pkan to get tested afore crossing into France; and if you dont get to Calais from that point within 3 days would you plan to get another test before crossing to UK?

We plan to get the test done in Roquetas, as we leave. We need to receive the results by email/text link as on our second day of travel we will pass into France before staying a second night in central France. Our third night will be at Calais, passing through tunnel early next morning before the 72 hours is up.
We have done this same journey before with our dog but if we are delayed en-route we’d be stuffed - and have to obtain another negative test in Calais and wait around ...
