At the risk of being shot down in flames. You say about wearing masks, ' when shopping and when unable to do social distancing' this is not correct Mask are mandatory, if you are out in public you have to wear a mask or face a 600 euros fine. Please wear one.

Regards  Jenni

Just checking around, on various sites, masks are mandatory but ONLY where social distancing is not possible (in public places).

Happy to comply with the rules. My understanding however from other posters is to wear a mask when social distancing of 1.5m can’t be achieved.  Someone please confirm. 🙏

From El Pais

The regulations make it mandatory to use face masks in closed spaces as well as in open ones if it is not possible to maintain a safety distance of 1.5 meters between people. The decree also includes contingency plans for potential new outbreaks and makes provisions to reinforce primary healthcare services.

I shop in Albox, you will not be admitted to any shop there without a mask, last week I lowered my mask to blow my nose and the Garda drove by, turned the car around and came back to tell me to pull my mask up, I thought this was a bit unnecessary, but thats what its like here now, and so it should be really its keeping us safe. You cannot walk along the street without a mask, it is Mandatory. I hope this helps

I believe it is mandatory to carry a mask at all times but it is only necessary to wear one in the street if it is not possible to maintain at least a 1.5m distance from non-family members

Please do not tar us all with the same brush. My wife works from home and has hardly left the house for 3 months. We have shopping delivered when we can or I have shopped on my own and worn a mask. We are coming to Spain on 4 July and will probably be spending the first few days clearing the weed...

...s in the garden. I understand the rules in Spain regarding masks when shopping and when unable to maintain social distancing and will adhere to them. Most people coming out to their second homes are I’m sure also aware of these rules and would be offended if  local residents believe otherwise.

Yes well said, so bloody annoying not all Brits have disobeyed the lock down and stayed at home and when they have been our, worn s face mask and used the 2 meter rule where possible.

Taken from a Facebook forum so I CANNOT attest the veracity of this, however ...

Taken from a Facebook friend's post...

This morning l had to go to our local supermarket. While parking l noticed a police car, then two officers talking to what l could hear were clearly two 40 something British men. The conversation :

Brit1: lm not wearing a f....ing mask, l don't have Covid.

Police: here yes, then broke into Spanish.

Brit 1: well you can stuff it

Police: here (handed Brit1 a piece of paper.

Brit 1: you gotta be kidding, f....ing 1,000 € you can f...k right off mate.

Police: handed Brit1another piece of paper.

Brit 1: what!!! Another 1,000€ what for?

Police: ( in good English) , you cant abuse Spain or Police. One more word and you will have bigger cost, go !

Visitors must respect our police and our laws..

I can certainly imagine this happening though.  Then those thinking they just won’t bother paying the fine and sod Spain.

What actually happens in that scenario? Do they prevent you leaving until fine is paid? Start proceedings and flag you should you ever return? Take you to the cash point if they feel you are going to skip without paying?

Spain being Spain, I would have thought there would be some structure in place to ensure tourists who fell foul of the law and got fined didn’t just leave without paying their fines ...

I am amazed they didn't arrest them, they should have done and then deported them with a ban.

Arrest ,Yes! Deporting, No! - Put them into a locked cell with feral loving cat idiots and the offending tourists won't be long screaming for mercy.

here in Mojacar and in Garrucha the mainly Spanish tourists are not wearing or in some cases even carrying masks.  no police checks here some cafes do not even have the hand sanitiser to use as you enter the place and the tables are not cleaned between users.
