At the risk of being shot down in flames. You say about wearing masks, ' when shopping and when unable to do social distancing' this is not correct Mask are mandatory, if you are out in public you have to wear a mask or face a 600 euros fine. Please wear one.

Regards  Jenni

Masks are only mandatory outside of shops and public transport if you cannot social distance more than 1.5 metres.

Stop spreading inaccurate information.

It has become compulsory from today (Thursday 21 May) to wear face masks in Spain in closed spaces (including shops and stores), as well as on the street and in public places, if a 2-metre ‘social distance’ cannot be maintained.

The new rule was ordered by the Spanish Health Ministry to further combat the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19), and has been published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE). The ruling came into effect on Thursday.

Since the end of 'The State of Alarm' the distance is now 1.5 metres.

regards

here in Mojacar and in Garrucha the mainly Spanish tourists are not wearing or in some cases even carrying masks.  no police checks here some cafes do not even have the hand sanitiser to use as you enter the place and the tables are not cleaned between users.

We have visited only a few cafe/bars on the Mojacar playa. However, the ones we have been to have had all staff wearing masks and cleaning tables in between customers. We are pleased to be able to patronize these businesses. If we came across any not complying we would not stay - and would tell them why !

...hem why !

One of the things i cant quite understand here in UK (and probably most other countries too), is you can get and get your shopping trolley in the supermarket, THEN you can sanitise your hands. Surley you should be able to sanitise your trolley bar first , as this is going to be one of the first places to have the virus.

Hi

I don't disagree Stu

Thats certainly not the case in any supermarket I have been in in the Mojacar, Turre, Garrucha, Vera district. I seem to remember that most places here place the trolleys and baskets after the sanitiser.

I do believe, as responsible adults, that we all have a duty to protect ourselves despite/irrespective/ in addition to what others may advise. Supermarkets seem to have it pretty right here. I do see your point but if the last person to touch the trolley had sanitised their hands there would be less risk.

What is to stop you taking you own sanitiser to clean the trolley handle before you get to the sanitiser in the shop?

It just seems like common sense to me.

Hi....I could have written this myself.

Additionally, one thing I will certainly do is put some money safely in to the Spanish small business economy. I will visit my local market, cafes and restaurants, garden centres, puppy rescue shops etc and will not only respect the rules I will expect the rules to be in force or vote with my fee...

...t. I will not be taking an "I'm all right Jack" approach.

Unfortunately, just as for other strains of flu etc,  Covid-19 is never going to disappear completely and if we dont embrace and adjust many people will suffer for reasons beyond it....we have social responsibility and must take a broader view  - one which supports our family, neighbours, friends, businesses and dare I say it 2nd home owners and tourists - castigating the latter two as a homogenous irresponsible entity wounds deep and reflects badly on the expat community. However, my commonsense tells me that the majority of expats will continue to act with the character that saw them embrace major change when they first moved to Spain...they had a broader, confident and more bold view of the world then and will do now. I look forward to meeting those on my return.

Kind Regards,  Jane

Well said Jane

I’m not so fed up with the those British that’s because they already have chosen spain as there new home can judge the rest of us that haven’t yet got to that position in our lives and can use our homes as holiday homes for the time being

...vid-19 from their lives.

Suddenly, we have the brain dead people come hell or high water are intent in inflicting themselves and whatever virus they can carry on Spain. They have ignored the advice of their own government, flocked to beaches, marched in parades and continue to ignore restrictions and recommendations from their medical advisors. And some of them have now arrived in Spain and the invasion hasn't really started yet.

They are name calling their fellow countrymen who are living safely in Spain with every insult you can think up. They are even condemning the Spanish police for doing their jobs. The supermarkets have additional self styled cretins who refuse to wear facemasks or even to maintain the required number per household who can shop or even fail in the suggested distancing.

But the person who has kept their part of Spain safe is now under threat.

As one of those living here permanently, I despair at some of the people here at the moment regardless of their nationality.

We drove past Villa Rico's yesterday going for a drive. All along the road outside, inside, everywhere there seemed to be the same amount of cars as before the virus, all going to the market.

I had considered going one Sunday to it again but seeing this... Maybe next year.

Most people are being really good, staying apart, but please could we not do crowds!!!!!!

Yes, interesting, some of them are very diligent and are spraying trolleys before being used, but there are some that are not quite as diligent (unless, of course, i just dont see them doing it)

I cannot speak for Garrucha but all of the bars and restaurants we have used in Mojacar have hand sanitisers. They also are meticulous in cleaning chairs and tables when people leave. In the main they are Spanish bars.
