Good afternoon, a few kilometers from Contador (less than 10km) is Chirivel. It is the main town of Contador, with a town hall, pharmacy, doctor, supermarket and other basic services. It has an apartment complex in the mountain area, known as Los Blancos with a large British community. The apartments have all the amenities, swimming pool and common areas for all neighbors. I highly recommend that area.

Hi , I am also in the process of buying a house in El Contador. I'm Irish so it will be good to know some other english speakers starting out . I bought my house on line so have only been on one fleeting visit to the village .I didnt see a tavern in the village (although I too have been told such a thing exists) but i spotted the vegetable van delivering to what I presume was a small shop . I  did however have coffee and a croissant in the hotel  (which was two minutes down the road , just as you come off the main road) and they also appeared to do tapas, pizzas ,beer etc which is handy but hopefully there is somewhere in the village to get a beer on a warm summers evening (fingers crossed and it will be fun to find out) .

I'm hoping paperwork is sorted towards the end of February so I can start sorting furniture etc. It will be a holiday home for the next few years until I see how I feel about making it a more permanent move at some stage . The house is on a small little lane behind the square called Calle Aire . Where is your house ? Have you much work to do  on it or is it liveable ? When do you think you will be getting keys?

Looking forward to meeting you and discovering our new home from home .

Fiona

Morning Carol ,

Sadly I'm back in very wet Ireland . I went over for a few days in the New Year as I thought I'd better see the house in person before there was no turning back (still cant believe I bought it based on a video) . Anyhow it thankfully lived up to the video and I loved it even more in person . Needs some TLC as it has been empty for a while and a kitchen (at some stage) but it is like a tardis  .It looks very nondescript from the out side but is huge  inside (4 Double bedrooms , dining room , terraces, patios etc) with the most beautiful 360 degree views from the sun terrace . Way more space than I need really . The Estate Agents were ...Coles of Andalucia . They do amazing videos and virtual tours of their properties and were extremely helpful throughout.

It is scary but I am really looking forward to getting to know the area and the locals . I too have heard that there is a small bar/tavern in the village but I was there early morning so I didn't spot anything open . Hopefully its not like Brigadoon and only appears every one hundred years. Not to worry .....you'll be welcome to mine for a drink or two once we all get settled.

Stay in contact and let me know how your plans are progressing . All the best.

Fiona

Hi , I had my offer accepted at the end of November but havent been pushing to finalise sale . I must send a query to the solicitor this week and see what the story is .

Yes Coles are excellent . Sometimes the video can make a place look much bigger (depending on the lense they use I suppose) than it actually is but their video/photos were all spot on .

I actually quite like the thoughts of a white Christmas (although it was sunny and 14 degree or so on Jan8th when I was there) and a sunny summer ...the best of both worlds..I am on facebook . Send me a request . Am off to look at Calle San Jose Ha Ha.
