Memories
It was in 2004/5 our dream of moving to El Contador finally collasped. Having met an agent who also ran a Bar in EL Contador we settled on having a house built in the village. We met with the architect and lawyer and made slight changes to the build. It turned into our nightmare as we discovered that no permission to build had been given by the Town Hall despite our being told it had. In fact we were in a bar in Velez Rubio when the agent allegedly rang the Town Hall to check on its progress. .
After a period of renting at Velez Blanco which was a positive experience we discovered that this project had already been sold once. Fortunately we met a brilliant estate agent Carrie and through her met our new lawyer. To cut a long story short we never did get our house and after fifteen years finally got justice in that the agent was sentenced to four and a half years imprisonment. This took several court appearances finally ending up in the supreme court in Madrid. in September.
This experience has not put us off Spain, and we have had many happy holidays since. Our rental in Velez Blanco was terrific and we made good friends, El Contador is a lovely village and we enjoyed our visits there. Hopefully we will visit again now there is a Hotel so close to the village. However my beloved wife now has Dementia and I am now her carer. If at all possible we will make the trip.
Andrew.
