Hi

I wonder whether anyone could provide me with details of a good company for transferring sterling into my Spanish bank account.

I have previously been using Transferwise who up to now had provided an excellent service with transfers done within minutes. However after experiencing what I can only describe as rank bad service this week I will no longer be using them. I transferred a small amount of money to them on Monday lunchtime and despite two calls, yesterday and today, the money has still not been forwarded to my Spanish account. They have told me that the delay is due to a random check been made on my transaction. This may well be so but it shouldn't take this long to do as I am a long standing customer. Unfortunately their office is now closed so I will have to chase them up a third time tomorrow morning

Many thanks

Richard

Hi Richard, we use 'Currencies Direct',  we do it online, but they have an office in Mojácar too.

of course it was the Bank Holiday so that probably didn't help things but we have found that the service from Transfer wise is so good the money is usually in the account before we have logged off.  the rate is always better than any of the others as well.  of course they will have checks occasionally to make sure that all is correct but that has to happen sometime because of money laundering and it also protects you from fraud.

Up to this week Alicia I would have completely agreed with you.

I received an email from them on Monday informing me that the money should be in my account by Tuesday. This didn't happen. I have just rung Transferwise for the third time in consecutive days to find that they still have not transferred my money, I have lost complete faith in them. .The lady I spoke to was very apologetic and admitted that the service that they had provided was not good and that she would look into it for me.

I get the impression that the company is very good at automated processes when transferring money in a matter of minutes. However, as I have found to my cost it is not good at putting things right when things go wrong.

This is a salutary tale for those who may wish to use Transferwise for an urgent transfer of money into their Spanish bank accounts.

regards

Richard

We have used Global Currency Network for a number of years. Great service, very prompt and always good exchange rates.

Our account manager is Kain Benbow who's number is 950 615 319

Hope this helps

That's strange because I have never had a problem with Transferwise - which is my only account in the UK now - and my transfers to our Spanish account take at most about 2 minutes. There must have been some reason why they were blocking your transfer so it might be worth talking to them to find out what the problem was. They are a very good & reliable company in my opinion.

We used Global currency network to transfer money for house purchase and transfer sums into Spanish account for everyday use. Needed small sum to top up the account recently and looked at transfer via Nat West. Found got better rate than GCEN. Used Nat West since.
