Hi I hope you get your specific problem resolved. Over the last six months or so all of the banks have been required to update their know your customer and anti money laundering policies. This is usually addressed through a short text (in Spanish) inviting you to fill in a questionnaire and/or going into the branch to complete it as evidence, e.g, of pension income is required. The text should advise you that failure to comply will result in your account being frozen. It is likely that this process will be repeated from time to time to enable the banks to tick the right boxes with the Central Bank.

Not too sure the Spanish banks are sympathetic to non resident accounts. Cajamar blocked our account some 16 months ago abs will not accept money in from the U.K. or, more worryingly, pay any of our standing orders. This as you can imagine is causing all sorts of problems. Their only response is we need to go into our branch to sort it out! We have even tried our solicitor in Spain contacting them and they gave the same responae

Hi there;

Check that your mobile number (if it’s a Uk number) includes the international code.

I had the opposite problem I that my Uk bank only recognized Uk mobiles; fortunately, I was able to amend this by calling the bank direct, thus enabling my Spanish mobile to accept codes via the Uk.

Maybe check your online banking settings

Hope this helps

I had the same with my UK bank. I had to call them for my contact number to be changed to my Spanish number, I couldn't do it online.

Thank you reader that have relied to my message.

I have finally got a email response from the online banking mailbox informing me that they have a technical problem in sending messages to foreign phone numbers, the security code is not reaching them to access online banking.

They suggested an alternative method but that did not work either.

Its costing a small fortune to keep calling their online banking helpline from the UK only to be keep in a queue or getting nobody that can speak English..

I have even emailed them asking them to get an English speaker to call my UK number which does not happen.

I guess I will have to wait until Enrique is back from holiday as he has always been very helpful.

 I have got to the point that I am seriously considering changing banks, as this has happen to me on a number of occasions in the past. Any suggestion as to a good bank around the Vera or Majacar area.

Many thank

Mark

One potential option may be to get the code sent to your email address instead of to your phone. I was on the phone for ages to my UK bank yesterday and this was one of the options that came up although it may not be available with Unicaja.

The online Cajamar Wefferent account is excellent. Absolutely no fees and no minimum amount required.

Hi Mark it’s so frustrating isn’t it !! I still haven’t got the hang of transferring money online from my Unicaja Account to companies. I have always dealt with Curro at the Mojacar Playa branch he is soooooo helpful and speaks excellent English. Good luck.
