Hello we are thinking of moving to the Zurgena area.  We are retired and looking for a quieter pace of life.  Somewhere with neighbours not to close.  I know there's a hospital in Huercal Overa, but is there a doctor in Zurgena?  We are an outgoing, social couple but also like our privacy.  Love having dinner parties :)  Perhaps some of you can tell me what life is like to live in this area, the ups and the downs.  With the coronavirus right now, I know we will have to wait some months before considering this move.  Thanking you in advance for any advice anyone can offer.

Hi. Hope this year s some help. We moved to Zurgena 15 years ago stayed for 5 years and then returned to uk.

Zurgena village was very nice, a couple of supermarkets, alovely little bar, doctors post office and a couple of banks.

Good fiestas, altogether very nice, unfortunately for us, the brits who came out were very rowdy however this was the ‘boom’ years.

I’m sure it’s changed quite a bit since then, however it used to have a small market and a really good market in Arboleas a couple of miles away.

I would suggest you rent if you can for 6 or 12 months. Better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck

Very helpful advice, thank you.  We were last in the area about 15 years ago and whilst we liked Spain, places like Arboleas, Albox etc were full of rowdy Brits.  I was wondering if they had hopefully all returned to the north of England, as they tarnished the place and gave all Brits a bad name.   I shall research some more.

Excellent. We are in fact returning to live in Spain hopefully in the next few weeks, purchased a property in Feb but of course this virus then happened.

This time we are moving to Cuevas. (No rowdy brits) hopefully.

Good luck. I wish you well

Being Perfectly honest and not being British, it is the southerners that bring it all into disrepute not the northerners.....lol

That is 💯 % true. I have to say northerners/midlanders fine. It was the southerners who were the problem at that time. Don’t know about now though xx

Coming from the North of England I was rather insulted that you presume that all       “ rowdy Brits” were from the North!!
Rowdy, ill-mannered, rude and thoughtless people can come from anywhere surely, and I am as appalled as you must have been by bad behaviour.

My husband and I are contemplating moving to the Zurgina area, and we are hoping too, that the anti-social element will have diminished, if not having gone altogether.
We would hope to be as fully involved as possible with the local community, and hope to be able to contribute in a positive way.
Please remember that we are not all the same, and not worthy of being tarred with the same brush! We consider ourselves and our friends to be considerate and civilised!
