Hi, does anyone have any experience with Solar powered pool pumps? Does anyone run their pool with a Solar powered pump? Does anyone know where I can buy a Solar powered pool pump? Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure if of any help, or noting what you already know..... To get from solar power/panels to pump, you need an inverter from panels (12v?) to 230. Such inverters are not cheap. Our pump takes 900w (from production or grid). Guess you need panels of least 1500w to feed a similar pump. On cloudy days it won't work, delivering short elec to the pump might harm it.

My best suggestion, if you have space etc etc, would be to go for a full solar for the house (and pump) with feedback, and run pump (dishwasher, washing machine etc etc) during sun hours. A good installer might get you a grant for the installation. We used ecocorp (b4 grants given).

Hi.

First off. Solar power and pool pumps are two different things. As Sveinb has said you will need an inverter. Pumps that are sold as solar pumps will have an inverter in the kit. Panels, pump and inverter.

I have experience of marine solar charging systems which are inherently similar, solar panels and possibly wind generator to produce the voltage. This is then coupled to an inverter/control system and battery bank where 230v is produced and stored. Obviously, power output is dependent on power input but there is voltage overload/under protection.  Even on cloudy days solar panels will contribute some power and this is where the battery bank comes in. On the basis we have down here more than 100 hours a month on average of sunshine you will find a solution.

This is all 'stand alone stuff' and I have no experience of being able to feed electricity back into the grid.

I know the attached link is for a sailing yacht but the principle is the same and it is very informative.

Hope this helps.

This information may help.

Update better link : https://autosolar.es/kit-solar-depuradora-piscina

Autosolar are usually quite helpful with answers to questions.

Good luck

Ecocorp in Antas put ours in, we also have 12 panels which they installed. Once the pool is up to temperature.... we have it at 34, then we only heat it up in the day when the panels are bringing in power. Same for the hot tub. Of course there is a cover over the pool and hot tub. They are not cheap, but as well as being able to use a pool all year round, it can bring the temperature down in the hot summers. Ecocorp is run by an English family.
