Short answer - no, you can apply for Residencia as soon as you have secured accommodation and registered on the Padrón
Residencia is what will allow you to stay in Spain longer than 3 months

What area are you looking to come to? or are you not decided yet?

Hmmmm. what do you class as ”everything”? You are not close to any coast, or major shopping centers there.
I have a friend who is an estate agent; if you’d like, I’d be happy to pass you her details - she’d be better placed to give you the info on the various areas.
Send me a PM if you’d like her details and I’ll get them to you - and yes, she does speak English fluently

hi Daromartin, I have been researching for 3years now, I do like the coast but find it to expensive for what am looking for its Moore about the feel of a place that will make me decide, and when I do then I will start looking for the right home, but thank you very much indeed for all your help.

A pleasure. If it helps, I live within sight of the Mediterranean, halfway between Garrucha and Vera. I have a two bedroom duplex with managed garden. I pay less than 400€ a month in rent ....
it’s not necessarily that much more expensive down by the coast

Been here since early 2017. Plenty of opportunities for what you want in the Almería area. Yes, you’ll need a car. I would say there that unless you are excellent with cars, DO NOT but from a private seller, no matter how good the deal. In Spain, if there are any fines or taxes outstanding, the buyer of the vehicle becomes responsible for them.
There are plenty of good garages around; they’ll service the car, ensure it has an ITV, that there are no embargo’s hanging over it and will register it with Tráfico for you, as well as give you a warranty. You may end up spending a few hundred extra, but believe me it will be well worth the peace of mind
