Just an update on my status.

I wrote to the Spanish Embassy in London again, asking them to confirm the "Brexit Update" paragraph with regard to the freedom of movement statement.  I asked if they could confirm if this information was incorrect or not.
They replied back saying please contact the Spanish Embassy in Athens.  Passed the buck I think!

I contacted the Embassy in Athens with my info and same reply came that I would need a visa to stay more than 90 days.
I have written back to them asking to confirm the info they give on their website is incorrect.  Waiting for a reply, but, it looks like it is incorrect information.  At the very least they should remove it from their info page as it gives false hope for freedom of movement.

To date, I have not been able to get a reply with regard to this info.  They don't seem to want to go there.

I await the Embassy in Athens.

I have been doing lots of digging on this matter, through various forums, Embassy pages and the Europa website.  What I'm beginning to believe, is, that this paragraph is badly worded making it quite ambiguous.  I think the real meaning is that UK citizens, that exercised their right to free movement when the UK was an EU member state i.e. they moved to another member state to live/work, will retain their rights that they gained through FOM.  I do not believe it applies to future FOM.

I have a new dilemma, courtesy of the Spanish Embassy :>)  Perhaps someone can shed some light or has experience with this.

On the information page for Spanish Residency it has the following sentence under Residing In Spain "Prior periods of uninterrupted residence in other Member States, as an EU Blue Card holder, shall be counted for the purpose of obtaining long-term residence."

I have 19 years uninterrupted residence in another Member State.  I don't have an EU Blue Card, as I lived as an EU citizen obviously whilst the UK was a member, EU Blue Cards are for third country nationals, which UK citizens now are.  Another grey area I don't fully grasp.
