It’s all very worrying, but maybe I’m worrying unduly ( I have a tendency to do this )

But are there any rules for Spanish property owners who holiday there for say 3 months at a time? I’d be grateful of any knowledge you may have.

Dario has explained in full the 90 days in 180 rules that will apply and you can't get residency for 3 months.  if you are from the Uk you will just have to work out how to use the time allowed for use of your holiday place.

Dario you said that we are legally obliged to update the green cert with a change of address when we asked at CATS they said it wasn't necessary.  which is the case?  we moved from Arboleas to Mojacar last year and still have the arboleas address on the form.  if we have to can we ...

...do it anywhere local or will Almeria be the closest?

I would be interested in where CATS get that information - I asked my asesora, who has “contacts” in Extranjeria and she was the one who told me after speaking to her friend in Extranjeria, that I must change address on card if I change address.

You will have to do it at Almería as that is the nearest National Police office BUT ... you may be able to do it online - especially if you have a digital signature

Thanks Alice - and for Marianne also to remember, if they drive across, the 90 days countdown starts the moment they enter the Schengen zone, not Spain.  So if you drive up through France, your 90 days starts the moment you hit French soil.

It’s a worrying time for those who want to move here; anything I can do to clarify, de-mystify or mythbust I will continue to do.

Hi Dario

I’m looking at coming over in the next couple of months to look for a rental. Do you know how long the rental contract has to be to qualify for residency in Almería (Mojacar, Vera area) and does my savings have to be in a Spanish bank account for 3 months before I can start the residencia appli(I’m a pensioner). Has anyone else recently been through this process?

Many thanks for any advice you can give.

Hi Maz, any rental 6 months or longer will be fine.

You can start Residencia application the moment you have your Padrón - shouldn’t need to have money in for 3 months prior

3 months is considered holiday let, and of course if you have 6 months or longer then you’ll need Residencia to allow you past the magic 90 days, hence any rental of 6 months or more.

I only ever showed my rental contract to the Ayuntamiento to get my Padrón; Extranjeria weren’t interested in the rental contract, only that I was on the Padrón because that is the address that goes on your card.

Hi Maz

If its any comfort I think everyone feels a little uneasy.

The pressure is on those people that want to gain the right to live here before the end of the year. And likewise The Spanish have found themselves in a position of pressure to cope with the surge of applications. The closer is gets to the 'cut off time' the worse it will get.

The Spanish, as of Monday 6th July moved the goal posts, a little. So whilst some are confused there is actually still a clear path to Residencia before 31/12/2020. A little more convoluted maybe, but its still a clear path.

Without a doubt the most important thing to do is be here in person and register on the Padron. Once you have done that you have an anchor and can demonstrate proof of residence. After that, it is time, documents, and appointments.

The only financial document you will need is a Statement of Pension from the UK Pension Service. Its a phone call away. As is your Health NHS S1 certificate.

Hope all goes well.

regards,

BTW Dario posts on here the most up-to-date information I have ever come across. I research too and post what I know to be true but I bow to Dario's greater knowledge.

Thank you for the reassurance.

I phoned about my S1 and was told I need to have it sent to an address in Spain. They told me to ring them about 2 weeks before I travel out to Spain and they will post it out to me over there.

Can I phone DWP for a pension statement while I’m still in the UK and does it need to be in Spanish?

I have savings in a UK building society account to backup my pension so do I need a statement from them and does that need to be translated into Spanish.

Many thanks

Maz

Hi Maz

Yes, phone the Pension service just the same as  S1. They will send it to your Spanish address. You then need to have both documents translated. Then copy them so you have two or three copies of each.

You dont need anything to do about savings.
