I love dogs but alas I developed an allergy to them in my mid thirties and if I am near one for any length of time I develop an asthma attack.

So for me any restaurants with dogs is a no no.

It never ceases to amaze me how a lot of ex-pats judged each other on the amount of rescue dogs they have. I see older people struggling to walk dogs and wonder what would happen to these animals when the old codger pops his/her clogs…..whose going to pick up from there???

But I will say again, there is absolutely no need to bring a dog or dogs to a restaurant especially when said dogs must walk though the restaurant to get to an outside space 😩😩😩😩....

...

We had dogs when we were younger so I am not anti animals. Never once though did we even contemplate taking them out for lunch 🤣🤣🤣

I can’t understand your comment about people “”judging each other by how many rescue dogs they have”  ,unless you mean the size of their Hearts. If you take one on it can lead to more . What’s your problem?       I think it’s not a case of “taking them out for lunch” . It could be that they can’t leave them alone at home as someone may steal them. Or, they cannot leave them in a hot car, where also they may be stolen or die.   I am that “stupid “ person with two, would you believe it Rescued dogs from Romania. Who will never leave them in a car unless I can sit in a restaurant and See them and it’s cool in winter or evening. My house may never be broken into (again) but I would never be able to live with myself if they were stolen.   They are my family for life and I control them at all times as they could be killed by a bigger dog mine are tiny .That alone makes taking them out a misery .   I always pick up after them and I hate to think when people see us now,  they disapprove of us! It’s very hard to enjoy a holiday in Spain if you have dogs and don’t choose to leave them ,feeling abandoned , again,  in kennels at home so drive for days take ferries , pay £2000 a year ferries for two trips +then pay diesel and hotels. I Love the bones of mine and would protect them with my Life.

In answer to the original question, the first answer was correct, 'Because they are part of my family', you wouldn't leave children at home alone or shut in a car, why would you leave your dogs, I have 8 dogs, but I have had as many as 13, all Spanish rescue, I dont take them into public places, I wouldn;t ever think of taking them to a restaurant, I always pick up, I am lucky a have 12 acres to walk them in off lead, but when out on the rambla they are always on leads, basically because this is Spain, with hunters that think it is fun to shoot a dog. I find the majority of people with dogs very responsible. So perhaps if you dont like dogs in restaurants find one that doesn't allow dogs, and as for moaning about over 200 Poops in Vera Player, you obviously have lots of time on your hands if you have the time to go around counting them, I cant think of anything more disgusting, why dont you set you a residents group that take it in turns to walk the street and approach anyone not picking up. Much better use of your time. And to Jack who asked 'what happens to the dogs owned by the old codgers when they die', Well I have a friend in the UK that runs a rescue centre I have made arrangements for all my dogs to go to her when my time comes and they will be rehomed to my wishes. I would never ever want my dogs to be rehomed in Spain, not a nice country for dogs. I have lived in a several countries over the years and never ever I have come across this obsession people in Spain seem to have about dogs and their poop and why this and why that. I can only think you cant have all seen the news, we have a mad man on the loose, ww3 could be his next step and your all worried about dog poop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Jenni, thanks for your input to the discussion. A question, what do you do with the dog poop from your doggies?

Also I assume all restaurants are dog free zones apart from dogs for the partially sighted…..so as for looking for one……nope won’t be doing that. I should be asked if I mind someone sitting at the next table from me can bring their dog.

I’m assuming the dog would be in the floor , so what’s the problem.  If i’ve ever seen dogs in cafes they sit quietly at their owners feet. Children on the other hand , scream, run everywhere , disturb everyone.  Not pleasant at all.  Give me a dog under the next table Any time, Ask ME if someone can bring a Kid In.   Signs on doors should read Well behaved children and dogs allowed .

In the winter I bury it on my land, and in the summer i leave it to rot, within 2 hrs it turns to dust, with the heat and insects that eat it. I think you are in cloud cuckoo land if you think anyone in Spain cares what you think about a dog sitting at the next table, and asks your permission.

There is a restaurant on the south coast of England (cant remember it name) that has high chairs for small dogs and the dogs sit at the table with their owners, its a lovely sight to behold, and I have never ever seen, any dog throw its food, scream across the table, cry for attention or annoy the other people in the restaurant. Now Children and some people on the other hand is another matter.
