Good morning, We have just bought a property in SJLT and arranging WiFi installation. Be told about Wymax, speed 20, is that the highest for the region as had up to 65 in UK. Also advice for Tv programmes that don’t freeze if possible and recommended installations. Look forward to hearing local people’s experiences

20Mbs is the limit but that is better than the 4Mbs we used to get.

The reason given to us ten years ago was the radar on the hill above the Pueblo limited Wimax's output because of interference.

I have seen fiber optic vans around so the future is arriving.

Thank you for this information.

Have you found WiMAX to be a reliable company? I will check with them about fibre optic as quoted for a one and two year contract and see if they are flexible to upgrade should fibre optic be an option in the future. 😃

About the only minus with me and them is they seem to switch off your signal if its dormant for a length of time (i.e. you turn off your router). We are usually two months between trips but we are paying all the time so leave it running all the time. We have had no issues since we have.

There is another company that has small advertisement boards tied to fences advertising 18€ conections but the name escapes me at the moment.

As posted in another thread, http://www.4ginternet.es is a good service.  The main man, Steve Bancroft is a native English speaker.  It’s a 4G system carried by Vodaphone ES and the supplied free-standing router will get up to 50Mbps down. They also do a UKTV package.

It costs 59,95€ a month and for that you get a data allowance of 200GB

Saludos, Darío

Looked at this but double the price of Wimax for our annual using the numbers do not stack up. As a resident it may well be a viable consideration but we are not. You can get season rates with some firms but it does not suit us so we are with Wimax for now.

An IPTV package is available to use in Spain from some UK sources as well as rebroadcast sources locally.

Yup - haven’t investigated the UK TV packages overmuch as I don’t watch any UK TV.

WiMAX are ...... well ok, I guess.  My own experience with them would lead me not to recommend them, but you’ll get different opinions from different people

What if your only using your property 3/4 times a year and occassionally rent it out. €59.95 is a lot to pay monthly. Can you get vacation packages to conect whilst your appartment is occupied

No idea - you’d have to talk to him and see what he offers.

There are some companies that do non-resident packages, but there will always be a trade-off - most likely cost / speed and in some cases stability of the service.
