thanks all. Yes I'm over 60 and English so no longer pay for prescriptions in England. But chrisso you are right no-one gets free prescriptions in the UK because they all have to be paid for by someone - As for the afore mentioned Scottish independence, the only way to guarantee it is give the En...

Sorry I forgot that England paid for everything in Scotland makes me wonder why successive governments in Westmonster want to keep us needy people in the union.

oops it seems my post has inadvertently touched a tender spot - sincere apologies but - easily researched info from the interweb - Tax revenue generated in Scotland amounts to about £66 billion, including North Sea oil revenue, but it benefits from about £81 billion in public spending. That means Scotland benefits from £15 billion more than it puts in. This is possible because England willingly pools and shares resources across the entire UK As oil revenues reduce the ratio will increase in Scotland's favour .

No raw nerve just fed up hearing the same old story.

If you want to quote from a Tory government page of information this is a quote from a Scottish newspaper which funnily enough debunks the Tory ideas.

“It is an accepted fact that every year for 30 years Scotland has generated more tax revenue per head for the UK treasury than the rest of the UK.  The latest figures taken from the Government Expenditure and Revenue Report Scotland (GERS) state that Scotland generated £800 more in tax per person than the UK average.  Scotland would have been £8.3 billion better off than the UK over the past 5 years.

Put simply, when the UK runs a surplus Scotland contributes more to the surplus, and when the UK runs a deficit Scotland has to pay more of the debt back than it is responsible for.  It’s a “lose/lose” situation for Scottish tax payers and especially for those in need of support from the state.”

The wonderful thing about the media is that they will tell you what you to hear depending on what you want to hear. One thing that is for certain is that if Scotland was not contributing to the UK’s coffers independence would have been granted without any vote.

thank you

Think your wife will qualify for medical costs as well if you have S1 even though she is younger but will need to submit her own S1 form when she reaches retirement age so I’m led to believe.
