Do you mean you have an Irish passport? and driving licence then you do not have to swap or any european licence unless you become a resident of Spain and then I believe you just exchange it.

I am currently in process of applying for my irish passport and i can change my driving license for an EU licence?. Will this allow me to drive in spain once i start procedures to become a spanish resident. Will i have to change my driving license to a spanish one once i re locate??. Just trying to as-certain if i am an EU member will i still have to take lessons&driving test??😁

Ah - HA!! Now that makes a difference. If you have an EU licence, then you will still be able to swap it. You will have to do the eye test and the computer based co-ordination test but an EU licence can be swapped - it’s UK licences that can no longer be swapped.
Once you relocate and take residency, a Spanish licence will be mandatory

Hi sorry no i still have uk license but will have eu passport. So your saying too late to swap uk license to eu license but once re-locate i change uk license to spanish?. So im guessing i will still have to take lessons/test then even though i have eu passport?? Confused lol🤣

Licence and passport are two separate things. It doesn’t matter if you have an Irish passport, if the only licence you have is a UK one, then no, it cannot be swapped to Spanish.
If you had a driving licence from ROI, then that COULD be swapped to Spanish, as ROI is still in the EU. Are you able to swap your UK licence for one issued in ROI?

Sorry to sound stupid all new to me. Whats ROI??. I have a uk driving license so if i move to spain and decided to drive how does it work with my uk driving license OR will i not be able to drive if im going to apply for residency??😁

ROI - Republic of Ireland. I was wondering if you have an Irish passport then perhaps an Irish licence as well.
If you move to Spain and decide to drive, once you take Residencia it is mandatory for you to obtain a Spanish licence. If you only have a UK licence, you will only be “legal” on that licence for 90 days. After that, you must obtain a Spanish licence by taking driving lessons and a test.

Right i understand so more decisions to make lol. I hadnt envisaged taking driving lessons&test so something i need to think about or purchase a property thats near to everything though i really like the cave houses but im guessing i will need a car. Have you re located to spain or have you always lived there?? Hope im not being cheeky asking😁
