We are close to making an offer of a villa in Oria which all being well we will do on Monday. We’ve been visiting Almeria area for five years and decided to take the plunge this year because of Brexit. We’ve been looking at houses in and around Albox, Cantoria, Arboleas etc but when we came to Oria it felt so peaceful in comparison and the countryside stunning. We found a beautiful Villa and hopefully will be installed by October. I understand there are a few good restaurants and bars in the town? Any recommendations would be gratefully received. We would also like to integrate into the community and of course learn Spanish! Again, recommendations gratefully received. Andy, Sarah and Alex (our 20 year old son)
Welcome to Oria, your right Oria has everything you could need, without the Hussle and bussle. Lovely place to live. Cant help with bars and resturante sorry, but I am sure someone will reply with recommendations.
Kind Regards Jenni

There is a facebook page - Rambla de Oria - which has lots of useful information. Good luck with your move, it's a couple more years before we can take the plunge and we can't wait.
There are five bars not counting the pool one when/if re-opens in the town itself, and one just a short drive away. There is Antonio's near the town hall, Miguel's just down the same road from it then Bar Pepe just round the corner from Cepsa garage. Have only had tapas from the first two but they also do meals, eaten in Pepe's and what I've had has been fine. Also next to the garage another cafe/bar but haven't eaten there nor the slightly out of town one. Oria is a nice place to live, more a traditional Spanish working/agricultural town. Good luck with your purchase and move to Oria, give me a shout when here and can meet for a drink as I live in the main town if that's where you are buying rather than the Rambla de Oria?

Thanks for that I’ll check it out. We’ve been waiting for a while now and it’s finally arrived. Hope you get there one day!

Hi, hope all goes well for you and yes am sort of from the Isle of Wight. Happy to say not born there but lived on the island for approx. 25 years. Are you familiar with the IOW in some way?

We can virtually see the IOW from our house on Hayling Island! Spent most of my adult life living around Southsea/Emsworth and recently Hayling so enjoyed many tripS to the IOW. My grandmother used to take me from Guildford to a Ryde on the train when I was a kid. We’ve been coming to Almeria for 5 years now and have an apartment on Valle Del Este. I had always fancied retiring here and Brexit pushed us to take the plunge this year. We are going home in August preparing house for sale and then back here on September hopefully for good. Can’t wait to move into house and settle into life in Oria.
Ah, fond memories of Southsea but Emsworth I've only travelled through except once and that was to pick up a boat to take round the coast up to Norfolk. Used to have holidays as a kid on the IOW and my ex's parents used to live there so took the plunge in my 20's and moved to the IOW but wasn't quite the same living there as it was holidaying lol. Wasn't bad but felt a little trapped. My kids were born on the island and still live there so I still have ties with the place. There will still be people buying here beyond Brexit but they will need to show a bigger lump sum in the bank if want residency, be similar rules to expats coming from a non EU country. Makes things much easier if can sort by end of this year though.
It’s mostly the rules about health cover which would worry me post Brexit. I’m two year away from retirement age so under current rules will receive Spanish health cover from then. Post Brexit people will have to rely on private health insurance for ten years I believe. I we’ve virtually completed the application for residency - I’m just waiting confirmation from my solicitor that it’s been submitted. Andy
