Hello!

I'm Jacqui a newbie to this site and just wanted to say hello! 😊 My husband Simon and I are looking at buying a small property in or around Oria. We have never been there but was hoping to find out what the town is like to live in? We are looking for a place that feels authenticly Spanish, where we can be part of Spanish culture! So if anybody out there could give me an idea about what it's like there!

😁🌞

You will get many opinions of Oria, fortunately from people who do not live here. The town has everything you need even a Carrefour.  We have 2 banks, a 24 hour medical centre with our own ambulance, supermarkets, bars even a cathedral one of the main attractions.  We have a petrol station, 2 car repair garages, a tyre station, a fantastic car body spray shop the is cheap and does brillant work.  We have a small sports centre, a gym and a summer outside swimming pool. The Spanish people a lovely and very welcoming, a large number of people who speak English especially in Orgarite which is a few minutes outside the village.  I have lived here for 11 years and love it here, so much so the my daughter and partner are moving out to join me.  I am sure I have missed something but please contact me if you need more information.

Awww thank you so much for your reply! That's brilliant to hear that you love Oria so much. It does sound lovely too!  I would love to visit one day! We are looking also at properties in Olvera in the mountains closer to Cadiz area. Mainly this is because we can't afford anything expensive and we have found some places in region of Β£50,000, but its also because we don't want to live in a big touristy area at all. So I'm guessing that is how Oria is, mainly locals living there not a big tourist spot? What we really don't want is to be surrounded by fish n chips shops, kiss me quick hats and British pubs! 🀣 Hope to hear back again soon! By the way, what is your name? 😊Thank you.

Hi,

not a lot I can add to Ednabs reply except that I live in the town itself and agree it is a friendly place to live plus all the other info.  It certainly is more a small Spanish working town and no fish n chip shops etc so you'd be ok lol.  For that Alfoqia/Arboleas area is where more Brits live, even the bigger town of Albox hasn't a chippy and again is more Spanish although there are a lot of Brit bar owners and Brit shops (groceries).  That's why I moved to Oria.  Coast (Vera/Garucha) is approx. 45 minutes drive but again more Spanish seasidy than Brit seasidy.

Andy

Hi, I live on the campo just outside Oria and agree with both Andy and Ednab, lovely place to live, there is a small estate agencies run by a couple that live and specialise in Oria, so might be worth you contacting them, their website is Shepherd Rest Estate Agents
