I was a bit taken aback when we went up to the Oria Health centre yesterday to register. We moved to Oria a few weeks ago and one of the real bonuses for us was having a 24 hour health centre in the village. Yesterday we were turned away and told to register in Albox. I don’t know why.

I’ve spoken to a few people in the village and I’m at a loss as to why they won’t accept us. Any insight would be appreciated.

Also does anyone know what the procedure is to register in Albox? We are getting our residency cards next week so I thought it may be easier to wait until then. With a residency card does that mean we no longer need to show people pardons, passports and NIE numbers?

Should we just turn up in Albox health centre or make an appointment?

Hi Andy,

Dont worry, Oria Medical Centre will take you, but in the first instance you have to go to Albox Medical Centre to register,Albox is the main Medical centre where the admin is done for this area, they then register you at Oria and tell you what doctor you are registered with, after that if you need a doctor you can then use Oria. When you go to Albox Medical centre I would advise taking a translator as one of the women there are really snotty if you dont speak Spanish, so if your unlucky and get her she just send you away. Also at the moment you need to take someone with you that has permission to driving out of Oria I would suggest Jenny she lives on the rambla and is an excellent translator and has a permit to travel her number is 660529295.

I hope this puts your mind at rest.

Sorry Andy I also meant to say, the I dont think you can register until you have your residencia, but ask Jenny she will know exactly what you have to take.

agree with Jenni one of the women at Albox is completely unhelpful if you don't speak fluent Spanish so best take one with you.  are you pensionistas or workers?  if you have S1s you have to register them first i believe in Hercal Overa not sure if that's changed,  someone will know.

We are retired but pre pension age so we have health insurance. It’s only ten days until we get our Residencia cards so it make sense to wait for them and then go down to Albox with an interpreter!

Thanks for all the advise! Andy

Hi Jenni We are getting our residency cards on Monday and I’m keen to sort out the health care quickly as I want a flu jab.

Morning Andy,

Well as far as I am aware at the moment there are no appointments, As for the flu Jab once you are registered you just turn up at Oria Medical centre and see the nurse.

But I would advise you speak to Jenny the translator re this 660529295 because she is recognised officially and gets all the new updates re medical restrictions and when to do what long before we do. She will give you the up to date info and come with you.

I hope this helps  Jenni

A question:

If you have private health, do you still need to register at your local health clinic, and can you be treated there?

I’m asking because I am also pre state pension age, therefore have private health insurance, which has meant going to a clinic as per the provider list issued by the company.

So, one can be treated at a public health clinic?

Thanks

Yes, I contacted my health provider and they told me I can register and use local health centres. I guess I just hand them my card and they contact insurance company. At least that how I assume it works. I specifically asked if I had to notify them up front before visiting health centre and they said no. Andy
