Hi everyone, my family and I currently live in the Baza area of Granada province, and are considering a move to Oria or the surrounding areas. We all have full health cover under the national system and I wanted to know if anyone had any problems changing their cover between provinces?

Also, what kind of service does the health centre in Oria give? Is there an urgencias service at all or is that at the hospital in Huércal-Overa?

Lastly, in regards to the hospital, does anyone know if they have an oncology service there, as I have ongoing reviews and treatment, and I'm not sure if I would have to travel to Almeria..

Many thanks if anyone can advise.

Hi Mandy,

We moved from Valencia to Oria and there was no problems, just red tape, it was like starting over, cos things aren't actually transferable so you have to register again, but the Oria Town was great and very helpful.

We have a 24/7 medical centre in Oria with emergency services. if they cant fix what every it is, they will take you to HO.

and finally yes there is an Oncology dept in the hospital in HO

and the best news is we now have a Carrefour Supermarket in the village.

Regards  Jenni

Thanks so much for your reply Jenni, I'm guessing you moved before brexit? I'm wondering if things will still be OK and straightforward🤔. It's very good to know the health center and hospital are good, and always good to have supermarkets😁

Hi Mandy,

Yes we moved before Bretix, but I cant see why Bretix would have any impact on someone that is already in Spain and just moving from province to province

Just to confirm what Jenni has said.  The 24 hour medical centre also have their own ambulance. The medical assistance from other is great, I had a leg injury a few years ago and had to go to have the dressings change every 3 days for 4 months.

there is everything you need in the village except a dentist or vets, which you can get in Albox.

the oncology department in Hercal Overa hospital is used for chemo and follow up but you have to go to Almeria for Radio therapy or if you need a PICC fitted.

Thanks Alicia, I have finished chemo and radio now, by a PICC, do you mean a reservorio? The implant to facilitate chemo? If so, I have one of those, do they clean them at HO or Almeria?
