COVID-19 tests
Can someone please explain the difference between a PCR test and a rapid flow test. What would I need if I wanted to fly to the UK. I have a place to Isolate and am double jabbed. Thank you
Hi Elenita
Rapid flow test or antigen test are needed just to prove that you haven't got coronavirus before you fly to UK . The PCR test you need when you arrive in UK is for research into new variants entering the country I think this is what I have read somewhere .
At the moment if you live in spain and have been double jabbed you still need to self isolate in UK but this could change anytime.
Tracey
The jab you need to get into the UK cost 30 euros the PCR you need to get into Spain and the price varies starting from 100 pound.

Hi, PCR test costs more and takes upto 3 hrs for result, Antigen or lateral flow test is much quicker, 30 mins to 1hr for results.
I flew from Alicante to Manchester in June, cost a antigen test was 29 euros at the airport and took 35 mins for neg result.
They only check this as you board the plane, they didn't check in UK.
I'm flying back out in two weeks and now have to take a test before I leave UK I think, didn't have to do this in June, it changes all the time.
Hope this helps.

There are not many who do 3 hr places in the UK most are 24 or 48 hour. Last year I went to a 24 hour one and because it was Christmas eve it cost me 285 pounds. Therefore give yourself time and book an appointment as soon as you arrive in the UK.

I get free tests here in the UK, I work for the government in global defense, so won't need to purchase a test to come back out, just when I'm there in almeria, usually 35 euros for the return journey.

This is the latest info. In summary, you need to take an 'antigen test' in the 72 hours before you travel. My daughter had one today at Docthos Salud in Albox. It cost 40€ and results with printout ready in 10 minutes. Some pharmacies also do this. You will need to arrange a PCR test for within 2 days of arriving in England. You can book this on the above site. Some airports also offer the service. (Manchester do a drive-through for 60 quid and a walk-through for 75.

How long does it take for the results of the PCR test if taken at the airport

PCR test results take up to 48 hours. I think they email the results. You have to prebook your test and have evidence that you've booked it before you can complete your passenger locator form or (at least with Ryanair) get your boarding pass. You can arrange to have the test posted to your address to do yourself and return. Again, providers are listed on the gov page. If you're not travelling soon it's worth checking the gov.uk pages regularly as they are updated frequently. You can also opt to get email alerts when updates are done.
