Some of you may already be aware of this, I have only just heard of it hence the post. I returned to the UK last September with my 7 dogs, UK vets are now insisting that all dogs coming in from the EU are tested for Brucellosis, although this is not a new disease, 2 vets have contracted it in the past few months, one recovered the other on meds for life. The test is simple just a blood test. So I took all 7 for this test (Then took out a mortgage!!!!!!) all were negative, I presented my EU pets Passports to the vet to write in the test results, only to be told that UK vets ,BY LAW, are now not allowed to write in EU pets passports. This could cause a problem for people travelling back and forth if they have an EU pets passport, because although the vets can administer the Rabies jab, it will not be recorded in the passport, and therefore will not be admitted to Spain. The only way around this as I see it, is make sure your dog has his/hers Rabies Jab just before you leave Spain so that it is still in date when you want to travel back.
Interesting post and asks more questions than it answers, but a good post nonetheless. We brought our two dogs from Ireland through the UK and France and onto Spain last year. We had no difficulty along the way regarding the dogs and no difficulty on the return trip either.
But, there never ever was difficulty in travelling to/from the UK from Co Waterford. Once again Brexit is raising its ugly head and hits the innocents like a deranged Dracula. Thanks Again Brexit!
I dont think this would apply to you Matthew because Ireland is still in EU. Its only applies to UK residence that have got EU pets passports. as I understand it, many people that go back and forth have exchanged their UK Pets Passports for EU ones, because getting your animal from UK into EU now you need health cert etc jump thru hoops and it costs money. Much easier to exchange your UK one for a EU one, so you can just come and go. But now the Uk has bought out this stupid law saying UK Vets cant write in EU passports.

If anyone travels a lot from countries to the UK it may be best to get a UK passport as well. This way all the medication and injections are recorded.
I dont think you are allowed to have 2 pets passports registered to the same chip.

Sorry I meant to add, Spanish Chips are registered in Spain and UK ones in the UK, its not possible for them to cross.

I am not sure if that is correct, I came over with 4 dogs with uk chips and uk passports. The vet here put all their information onto their system and recorded all their injections etc into their passports. I do agree this may not be correct in the uk

It’s not just UK vets. Spanish (EU) vets are similarly not allowed to write in UK pet passports.
NB: The test for Brucellosis in the U.K. for dogs that have been abroad is advisory, not compulsory, it is not a requirement at the Channel crossing pet control centre.

But will a UK Pet Passport be recognised by EU? It may have all info in it, but if it’s not authoritative for entry into EU there’s another problem.
Not sure when you came over with your dogs but this law is since Bretix.
