Mathew seems to be very self-opiniated. I trust that he has a Doctorate of Public Health to back up those opinions otherwise he very much  riske the kind of public rebuke that Piers Morgan got last week on this subject for expresseing strong opinions about something forwhich he had no traini...

...ng.

The fact remains that experts ( Qualified !! ) are divided on the best way ahead . Arguments about which country is ahead depends upon which country is actually going in the right direction !!  . They each believe they are.

The UK scientists argument is based upon the demonstrated fact that children are much more resilient to the virus. To take them out of school unnecessarily means that parents need to make arrangements for those children. This means that parents who are nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers, hospitital support workers etc.have to stay home and not perform their essential duties

OR EVEN WORSE

They get vulnerable elderly grandparents to tlook after the children and risk catching the virus in the full knowledge that is more likely to be fatal to them. Would he accept responsibilty for that in the same way he suggests Boris Johnson should.

Think about it Mathew. Are you really that knowledgeable or is this simply political bias against Boris Johnson.

Well put and a very good question Johnm.

I regret to say that Mr Johnson appears short of the mark. I don't say this lightly as most of europe is stepping up to the mark and taking steps to slow the virus attacks. The Covid-19 cases in England/Wales are rising by the hour. But, Mr Johnson has his followers who'll believe anything he com...

...es up with. There cannot be much difference between his expert advisors in the UK and the advisors of every other country in europe. Or is Boris just being Boris and once again going against the grain? Keep it up Boris, did anybody advise you that people are dying of the virus? How many funerals does it take?

What utter nonsense you spout. Most people in the UK including the opposition parties are supportive of the actions of our Prime Minister. His daily briefings are proving informative and keeping everybody up to speed. It is all about timing which includes the financial assistance announced yesterday by our Chancellor . Schools will close   at the end of this week which has allowed the online curriculum for each pupil to be organised and checked they have the equipment they need at home . We have also been able to arrange the support needed for our more disadvantaged pupils including the arrangements to feed them .

Seems a few on here support the UK Prime Minister on how he is dealing with the crisis, so I suppose those same people will be catching a plane to the UK as soon as possible?

1. Politically, I couldn't care less about Boris Johnson or any other politician in the UK mainland. I don't have a vote there. But, keeping the schools open (and many are self closing by the day irrespective of Mr Johnson's directives) appears crazy. The Irish Prime minister (himself a medical doctor) closed all Irish schools from last week.

2. Ireland is almost in total shut down. Our government is trying to halt the march of the virus not leave it peak and then tackle it its retreat. This seems logical to me; I can't see the benefit of Boris Johnson's tactics.

3. I am looking at tv images of platforms full of people in the London Underground (nearly all nose to nose). Is there some kind of immunity in the UK that the rest of the world does not know about?

4. Have I any medical or viral qualifications? No, but I have Common Sense in spades.

"Schools in Scotland, Northern-Ireland and Wales are to close from Friday in response to the coronavirus epidemic.

It is expected the UK government will announce shortly that schools in England will follow suit."

I just copied this from the BBC website a few mins ago. It appears, I was right all the time.

If Mr Johnson needs any more advice on Covid-19, he can feel free to contact me. He'll get the truth from me. I expect most his advisors are submitting their resignations.

Mathew who takes up most of the space on this forum topic is in Ireland(stated several times) and I live in England, own a property in Spain and visit in accordance with the limits imposed by relevant regulations.

Ah! James, Mr Johnson has finally seen the light. Please let me commend him on his decision to close the schools and his honesty in advising that he does not know for how long this will last. He was late, but now appears be coming to grips with the gravity of the situation.

Sterling "is tumbling" according to BBC1 television news at the moment. I wish everybody in the UK and elsewhere only the best as we all face into a dreadful period.

In Ireland landlords are coming under pressure to reduce rents as many are losing work due to the clamp down. Most likely, it will be the same in Spain. It looks like the holiday season for the rest of 2020 has died in Spain. More property will be available to long term renters and therefore a reduction in rental is obvious.

The Clotts running the Olympics are still in denial and think the games will go ahead. I hope they'll listen to sensible people and change their mind. Eurovision is dumped . . . . . . well every cloud has a silver lining.

I'm looking at 6.30am queues in a London Sainsburys almost on top of each other as they wait to raid the shelves. So much for allowing space between people. But, why am I not surprised? And in another supermarket chain I see coverage of workers loading cakes and fruit with nothing covering their hands.

Those are just some of my live thoughts @ 6.25pm today. The news on Spain per BBC does not look good.
