Before Covid we spent at least 3 successive Februarys in Mojacar Playa and wore shorts at all times during daylight hours. Furthermore, we swam in the Med every day the pool being  in shadow. OK! we saw some Spaniards walking the beach thinking we were loco and them zipped up to their necks in coats and tea cosy hats to their eyes that would have helped the Germans in Stalingrad.

You must be made of tougher stuff, we originated from Yorkshire and would not dream off going in the pool in February unless it was heated

matthew it has been one of the coldest Februarys we have had for a long time and our shorts haven't been out of the cupboard for a while now.  Certainly not seen any swimmers except those in wet suits doing the surfing or wind surfing.  Not even seen the regulars in Garrucha who normally swim most of the year.  We have even used out central heating most afternoons and evenings and the electric blanket is still on the bed!  Roll on Easter and the warmer days.  Our pool isn't due to open until June that's if it is allowed with Covid regulations again.  Had no indoor pool all through the winter because of Covid regs.

Oh!  Alicia, I live by the sea in Ireland and I go for a dip in the Atlantic nearly every morning. I'm joined by a group of hardy men and ladies. We have strict rules for the group i.e. no wet suits, no flippers and just bring a towel and swimming togs/football shorts. There's a yuppy sort of "Who but us" brigade trying to infiltrate with their heated eiderdown jackets plugged into their Land Rovers for instant heat, but we couldn't have them trying to run the show.

And John99Andrew when I'm in Mojacar for February we swim in the sea not the pool. The pool is in shadow and is a kind of wet cold.

Incidentally, the water temps in the Atlantic by south east Ireland are not much different in February to August temps.

I think Gilbry  must be living in a different part of spain if he thinks he can wear shorts most of the year in There must be another Mojacar

To quote John McEnroe 'COME ON, YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS, WHAT ARE YOU, MAN OR MOUSE'. I've always worn my shorts here on the campsite in winter and so have many of my friends but today I went to the extreme. My wife and I drove up to Calar Alto at 2,168m above sea level. At midday it was absolutely stunning, cold and clear and a temperature of -2. My wife was a little embarrassed by my walking around in shorts but it was exhilarating to say the least. She took the attached photos today and has put them on her F/B site. I will admit not all the comments have been complimentary. hmmmm.

As for rainy days in Mojacar/Turre. My criteria for a rainy day is rain must fall heavily for at least 3 hours during daylight hours for it to be called a rainy day. So I got a bit of leeway there.

Good on Ya Gilbry. No pussy footing from you. I bet when you get your vaccine you won't be rolling on the ground like a whinging Premiership professional footballer.

I found the longer you live here permanently the more you adapt to the seasons, and dare i say it, the older you get your blood thins and the last thing i would wear is summer clothes (shorts are not my thing anyway).  But people who do not live here permanently don't seem to feel the cold as much, or the heat in July and August.  It really depends on you.  If your home has sun alot of the day you'll obviously feel warmer in winter, my home faces East so i get the morning sun then by lunchtime it gets cooler indoors.  If you are an  outside person great, depends entirely on your preferences.  Either way its alot warmer than UK.  Good luck.

I agree with you, it's ok in the winter here wearing shorts but when summer comes a lot go back to the uk, for us poor sods that have to stick it out in 40 c

If you are used to shorts and t shirt in the winter come summer you don't have much to shed you will finish just wearing you birthday suit

Even in Ireland I've been in shorts since St Patrick's Day (17th March). I'm frozen, but my mind is thinking coastal Spain and when I can get there.
