Hi me and my wife are looking to move to mojacar or surrounding area ….

My wife’s a nail technician plus does

Massage and beauty , I’m an electrician but I’m an all rounder with doing most building work ……

was wondering if we’d have trouble finding work? We know alittle Spanish but I know there’s lots of English there

As per Hartcjhart, the nationality of your passport is of paramount importance; if it’s a UK passport, then in reality you can forget about working for the first five years, as you’ll be on an NLV - Non Lucrative Visa, and in all honesty stand very little chance of getting a Work Permit.

If you have EU passports (i.e. Irish), then you’ll be able to work, but you are going to need Spanish.  Whilst you may only choose English speaking clients, your suppliers for materials etc will all be Spanish speaking.

Are you already residents of Spain if not you will not be able to get a visa to live here and work and will need sufficient funds to cover the necessary medical cover and living allowance required by the government since Brexit.  Unless you are European passport holders of course but then you will need Spanish language skills.

I am afraid Place in the Sun programmes still give the impression that nothing has changed and anyone can just come to Europe to live and work still.

Perhaps this site needs a go to (pinned area?) for all of the people who ask this form of question. It seems to surface every week. The misconceptions of just moving here and starting a job is staggering. While there are people like yourself, Dario etc.. who answer and give good advice I wonder why the question askers do not bother looking up somehting along the lines of this article Why are expats leaving Spain.

Every Interesting read btw

This is one of several that I found by typing into a search engine 'the truth about brits moving to spain'. There is likely a myriad number of ways this question can be asked.

A Place in the Sun and a New Life in the Sun do mention that hurdles that Brits need to overcome but only peripherally. I guess most people are convinced they can ignore the Spanish immigration rules or somehow circumvent them

Depending on your passport type, you may/may not be permitted to work here. Having Spanish is an absolute MUST if you're in business. I'd suggest you research very thoroughly all the implications of working here... As autonomos you each have to pay into the social security system ( average around €320 per person per month, whether you have the work coming in or not). Then you have to make your income tax declaration to the Hacienda and believe me, they take NO prisoners.... That's before you even consider your living expenses. To work under contract at a salon will probably be out of the question as there are plenty of Spanish nationals who are fully bilingual and who, legally, must get priority over immigrants like yourselves, especially if you are on a non EU passport. Please, SERIOUSLY do your research with professionals before you come over.
