I bought an house 2 years ago via Alex at New Wave Villas, who was excellent (it wasn't actually on his books, unlike the other 3 he showed us, but he included a property on someone else's books to ensure we saw a range of properties). Since then we have been involved in renovating the house (huge strip out etc) and Alex has managed that too. His service and care and attention to detail have been superb.
Office by Trufis opposite the Dia supermarket.
Hi,
Agents - Can recommend Olive properties, as others have done, although they don't have too many properties on the M-Playa at the moment. My advice would be use the I/net and cast wide, see what's out there and keep an open mind on areas.
Sols - Maria in Vera, as others have done
Money Exchange - Cornhill FX, deals done in the UK, better rates than I could get here and the best bit is you get the money the same day unlike some recommended where it can take 2 days all told....
Where to buy - $22Million question, look around, use everyone then look again! We've found since moving here that we (and friends who moved here this year) have decided our first choice place is not for us, in our case that were willing to be a bit further out - July and August is crazy on the Playa!
So maybe renting has merits? It's a personal thing...
Best of luck
Chris

Thank you for the help & advice, especially re the cash transfer options. Funny enough we met one of the owners of the 'Spanish Property Choice' estate agent at 'The Place in The Sun' event in London 3 weeks ago. I thought they were very helpful at the time, but since...

... then they have not replied to any of my emails! Thanks again, Gary
Earlier this year I tried to book an appointment with the Garners at SPC and they gave me a date outside my time span so I asked them, by e-mail, if it was possible to change. Never heard from them. While in Mojacar I called into their agency 3 times and it was always the wrong time! So I never got to see any properties with them.

Buying property in Costa Almeria (or anywhere else in Spain) is probably the 2nd most expensive item you'll buy in your lifetime. Don't cock it up! Do it once; do it right.
For a start all properties listed in the estate agents are not for sale. People fly kites seeking the value of their 2nd most expensive investment. The plus side is that many properties that are not for sale, are for sale. Apologies for speaking paradoxically. But, know what you're doing. Know in advance that the estate agent is never going to tell you the full truth (there is a difference between the truth and the full truth, ask any American Lawyer) - a vendor would sack him if he/she did.
Talk to us who bought over ten years ago; we've seen the property market collapse. We had little choice only to take the hit. Some sold at a huge loss, others with a bit of luck broke even. I feel that property prices in well located property prices have bottomed out over a year ago and have crept up at 5% minimum since. Remember, I'm talking about well located property. I don't see Brexit having a great effect on current prices. The Full Truth:- We could have done without Brexit.
More Europeans (pardon the dig!) are buying in and around Mojacar Playa so prices are not wholly dependent on the English speaking people. Therefore, I feel that waiting for Brexit will be costly.
Rental Market:- I rent out ours privately. Using estate agents is costly and in my case I found that they got the mun and I got no fun. The Full Truth:- It has never been easier to rent out property in Mojacar Playa. In fact my bookings for 2019 are healthy and every person renting from me then did so in the past. I no longer take deposits from them as there is no need. I haven't advertised in three years and I don't intend advertising. A returning renter is worth more than any advertising can bring in. Again on the Full Truth edge there is no problem renting May to October. The problem is November to April. Anybody advising otherwise is a Lyre as against a Harp (work that one out!).
I think I've said enough. The rest is over to you.
I would recommend as a solicitor Michael John Davis who has an office in the Parque Commercial, he also has one in Almeria city I believe. He is a bilingual Spanish qualified lawyer and is not the cheapest but is excellent compared to certain others I have seen mentioned. Of course, some sales are more complicated than others, for whatever reasons that may be, so I really would stress that you go for a good properly qualified lawyer. Not all lawyers in Spain have the same qualifications and have done their apprenticeship!

Hi Chris
Thanks for the recommendations, I have seen the same Solicitor mentioned a few times now, so shall make contact with them.
I have heard from a few people now, including an Estate Agent, that we may find once we arrive that we may prefer to be somewhere a little quieter, but within reasonable distance of Mojacar. It appears that you an get a little more for the budget as well.
Cheers
Gary

Hi Mathew,
Very sound advice in all aspects...….thank you!
Brexit: Whilst nobody really knows what will happen post Brexit, my personal view is probably similar to yours and can only see prices rising. I know others have a different view and perhaps want to hang on to see what happens post Brexit, but my concern is eventually being priced out. As you say, its not just the brits buying in Almeria.
Thanks again.
