We shall be taking our usual route as though to the ferry port in Bilbao.

Murcia, Albecete, Madrid, Burgos and then heading up into France stopping at a very nice hotel in Perigaux. Onwards then towards Rouen and then the Chunnel.

However, we have just contacted Brittany Ferries who say that they expect passenger sailings too recommence from the beginning of July so just might chose that option instead.

Stay safe folks and hasta luego.

That’s us too we are booked after 4 cancellations on the 21st July Bilbao so fingers crossed.  Only one driver, better Bilbao lol.   Thank you.

I usually drive Calais,Rouen,Le Mans,Poitiers,Bordeaux. Then in Spain- San Sebastien,Burgos,Madrid ( overnight stay in Ocana) and the next day either Albacete,Murcia or straight down the A4 to Jaen, edge of Granada,Almeria and then here to Palomares. Prefer the latter way though slightly longer but you get a good view of the Sierra Nevada....

Hi can I ask how long it took you from Le Harve to Hossegor? We’re on an overnight ferry to Dieppe, so not too dissimilar.

Also would you recommend Hossegor? We were thinking Bordeaux as want to try and fit in a bit of sightseeing but Hossegor looks nice.

Plan is to do most of drive on first and last day to free up some time in the middle.

Thanks

Dave

We were on the overnight too. It took about 8 hours and was dark on getting to Hossegor but that was Feb.  Less time to Bordeaux so more time to see something. Not much in Hossegor we stayed at the Relais du Lac.   It was nice overlooking the Lake ,peaceful and very easy parking , but we just wanted to get here ASAP.  I Dreaded the drive through France but I Must say. It was so very relaxing.   Wacky races as soon as over the border lol.  Hossegor is a Very residential area and pretty. Pics of Hotel and the Room  we had . They have better.

Hi John we drove out in Feb to come to our apartment in Almeria.

Route

Late 9pm shuttle from Dover A16 to Abbeville and then A26 to just short of Rouen got there around midnight. By pass Paris using RN's via Evereux and Dreux. Joined A71 at Orleans and onto A75 via Millau (the famous viaduct) to Montpellier. Join A9 and follow through into Spain and onto the AP7 all the way. We managed to get to Tarragona and stopped overnight before heading down to Almeria the following morning.

There are probably quicker routes but this is by far the least stressful and some great scenery.

That sounds like a very pleasant Tripp. Thank you for that.

Hi

We are looking at doing exactly the same next Wednesday, our apartment is going into summer rates which are 4 times the cost. We have had 2 ferry cancellations. We are going to drive to Bilbao and try and get a repatriation ferry, I have waited 8 days so far for a reply to my request from Brittany ferries. If we cannot get a ferry then the plan is to carry on through France to the channel, but going on line the eurostar seems to be booked up for days and days.

I would drive to Calais or Dunkirk ferry terminals and see the situation.Always cheaper to book at least I day before if you can, much cheaper that way.Wouldnt bother with Eurotunnel, quicker but much more expensive...

👍Have done that journey a few times now, seems to work out better than the ferry from Bilbao/Santander.That would be ok but they insist that you have a cabin and that puts a 100 euros plus on the trip.By the time you mess about on the ferry you can have done plenty of miles/ kilometres up through France albeit with all the tolls...
