Hi Shaz and thank you for your message. The post you have replied to was from a question I asked in 2019. I actually moved to Spain in September 2020 and now a resident. I rented for 6 months in Mojácar and in May 2021 moved into my own apartment on the Playa. I’ve made quite a few friends and...

... acquaintances and also have a little dog which I got from Paws Animal Shelter. All is good. 😀

Hi Sandra,

Weld one and lovely to read that you completed your move to Mojacar!

When you rented for 6 months first, which agency did you use or how did you secure this rental please?

thank you

Nafine

Hi Sandra

Isn’t it strange I only got your post yesterday! After I sent it I realised it was from 2019. Glad your all sorted. Enjoy. 😊

Hi I got my rental through Mojácar Rentals. As part of the withdrawal agreement I had to have a legal and signed 6 month contract as I didn’t own a property here. I organised my rental on-line while I was still in the UK in August 2020, as I did my Solicitor here in Spain. If it hadn’t had been for lockdown I would have come over to Spain and stayed in a hotel for a week or two and had a look at rentals in person but no hotels were open and agents were not showing people round in person because of the lockdown and all properties having to be “COVID “ cleaned. I didn’t like my rental property at all but I had signed for the lease so was stuck with it!!

Hii Sandra, thank you for your reply

Exactly what I would need to do before renting to look to buy property, staying in a hotel/ self catering first, I have been sitting on the fence, undecided for well Over a year now! for that same reason the commitment to a rental from afar, and the not liking it. Congratulations on your moving to Mojacar during COVID, very resourceful!

Did you see many properties before your purchase, did you have a good agency?

I might take a short holiday to Mojacar as I have not been for many many years and am told has changed a lot of course and would need to explore. Did you know Mojacar before moving?

regards

Nadine

Hi Nadine, I had only been to Mojácar once on my own for a week in May 2018 😀 I looked at quite a few resale properties but couldn’t find what I wanted, I used several agencies and all much of a muchness, they don’t hear what you are asking for and take you to inappropriate properties. I ended up buying a new build apartment off plan and dealt direct with the company that was selling. If you do decide to take a holiday please feel free to contact me and we can meet up.

Firstly I would like to thank the people who run this site and all the people who take their time ask questions and reply I find it a great help and insightful. I'm 61 and single and live in the North West of England work full time and earn a below average salary. I'm hoping to retire when I'm 64...

... and up to now Mojacar is where I want to relocate to. I will fund this by selling my home in the UK and buying cash, I will of course be totally funding the first two years from savings before I can draw my state pension at 66 (don't start be on that subject) I'm not looking at buying a car as I can't justify or afford the expense. To carry on living in the UK I would either have to carry on working well past my retirement age to be able to own my car and my house and have 1 holiday a year or I would have to downsize considerably and to a different and not so good neighrbourhood , plus put up with the awful climate which gets me down. It would be great to know if there are people who have been in a similar position as myself, made the move and how they are getting on, what obticles they have come across if any, how they have settled in etc.

Best regards

Sandra

Understand completely Sandra. I am on the same page, just looking at Roquetas de Mar (much flatter)

Hi Sandra,

I hope you are having a nice Christmas time in Mojacar and soon New Year to celebrate!

Thank you for your reply, I thought I had replied earlier but not seeing this! I can only say you are so brave and adventurous having seen Mojacar 1 week, renting then settling there! Amazing.

Are properties off plan a good thing there I guess? I have not looked at that.

thank you for the offer of contacting you when I come down to Mojacar, I will do so.

Best wishes

Nadine

Hi ladies, I'm thinking of using Idealista to find a rental or would you recommend using an agency on the ground?  I've got a couple of recommendations of which lawyer and tax advisor to use to make sure I don't get stung in the process and for tax. Any further recommendations would be most welcome!

Wishing you both a very Happy New Year  and hope your Nadal was Feliz!

Hi Nadine, I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. There are risks of course to buying off plan but I’m happy with my purchase. I’m not sure if there are any new build apartments being built at the moment in Mojácar. Plus of course it all depends on your budget. I’m sure whether I was brave or stupid  y only visiting once but so far so good 😄
