Well jtp890. You say, and I quote, ‘if that is the cost”. Can you tell us ‘remoaners’ what is the actual benefit from leaving?

Given the utterly TINY percentage of vehicles that Germany exports to UK as opposed to sells at home and in other overseas markets (like Japan, for instance) I can't really see the German car industry making even a squeak.... that's yet another Brexiteer trope that has been thoroughly busted prev...

I think you'll find that Germany exports 20% of its total car production to the UK

No, about 4%.
In 2018, the gross production value of the automobile industry in Germany amounted to 511.95 billion euros. In 2019 the gross value of car exports from Germany to the U.K. was 21.5 billion euros. Its biggest export market is China, then USA, then U.K.

How many cars do Germany Export to UK?
In 2016, Britain was the largest single export market for German manufacturers, who sold 800,000 new cars there, or 20 percent of their overall global exports.Jan 16, 2019
Naturally they sell most of their cars in Germany. I should have said 'exports'.

Still don’t be expecting the German car industry to come riding to the rescue. U.K. Just ISN’T important enough.

Here’s your Reuters reference from Oct 2016:

Fair comment. However the data I quoted does not support what was said in the article, which put U.K. as the largest export market for the German auto industry. I will try and locate my data source which is more recent but differs significantly. Here is one that states the U.K. is the third largest German Car Export destination, not the first.

However, you seem to be correct according to other sources such as Deloitte and Full Fact. I apologise.
So it does appear that the U.K. is the main export market for German cars but most German cars are sold to EU countries in Europe.

I think it morphed into German Car Export to UK rather than Car Manufacturing.
