*Sigh*  There's just no hope for some people.

It isn't happening.  Believe me or don't, I really don't care, just as I said, don't get excited and get your hopes up because they WILL be dashed.

I still find it amazing that it hasn't been reported in any of the Spanish National Dailies.  Guess they don't want to acknowledge they've been scooped by the ... what was it? Oh yes .... The Majorca Daily Bulletin ....

We'll see.  And I bet we are having the same conversation next year

Quite apart from the fact there is some rather creative reporting in this wonderful organ:
"The UK is Spain's biggest and most profitable tourism market, with almost double the number of Brits visiting the country than German tourists last year."  ... nicely forgetting to mention that French tourism outstripped Brits last year ....

I spotted it in the olive press, shore that's Spanish?

Olive press is the one very well known for inventing stories I'm afraid.  It's not in any of the Spanish Nationals

I get that the Nationals won’t report until there’s something to report about and as for the murmurs in the lesser papers ,no smoke without fire as they say. there is no harm in having some Hope . Don’t you worry about us lesser Mortals being disappointed lol. I couldn’t care less about my place in Spain anymore and detest Spain, in fact you were a part o the beginning of the end for me.   However , It is so important to others

Trying to make out why you think I hate Brits?  I have nothing against any particular nationality.  I do dislike exceptionalism, that belief that a certain nationality is SO special that they have to be dealt with differently because they think they are so important.  Perhaps that'...

...s what you feel coming across?  my intense dislike of the "They need our money, they can't do without the Brits" attitude.

As to "But you're negativity on a subject that you have no real knowledge of is staggering" .... who says I have no real knowledge? I've made it my business to integrate, keep up to date, and meet and talk to people.  So really that's just your assumption because what I say doesn't gel with what you want to believe.  I can't help that.  Dry your eyes princess.

Oooooooh the insults start. What’s next a threat that you’re gonna put a hex on me from another one of your lunatic beliefs.  If you had any real knowledge you wouldn’t be on here spouting your garbage.

I love Spain, I love the people(with a notable exception) I love the lifestyle, I love the climate. I can’t actually use my 90 days so at this point a change to the rules wouldn’t make much difference to me now. But I’m hoping that changes come in the next 5 or 6 years. They may, they my not, but as sure as eggs are eggs you don’t know shit from toothpaste as far as what May or May not happen.

*sigh* and the silly little insults and digs come from you as well.  Way to go. What are you, in primary school? Grow up for gods sake.

What my beliefs are or aren’t makes no difference.  What you think I do or don’t know makes no difference.  I know what I know, and if it doesn’t fall into line with what you choose to believe, that’s really not my problem is it?

See if you can understand just how little I care about what you think of me or what I know : “cast your eyes upon this barren field, dry and dead, bereft of life. This is where I grow all the sh*ts that I give”

But hey, keep up the primary school-style insults - you’ll have the thread locked in no time.

LOL, primary school. That's where immature school boys believe in magic and other such rubbish. Did you ever graduate?

Have nice night.

Hey Guys - Some of the posts are getting too personal and downright abusive. Let's discuss the topic like adults.

At last.

Going back to the subject, It was the French who first made a move followed by Spain. That has been reported in the UK press, I don't read the Guardian, but read a quote from the Guardian in a more grown up paper.

The idea of open borders has now become an international concern a disaster. Even the EU are indicating grave concerns over the Schengen Accord. There are not many countries in the EU, including ROI, who are signed up to it, so it may not be a major issue to amend, suspend or even scrap.

Immigration both legal and illegal will be the key issue in the UK's coming general election. Without diverging, unfettered migration is also a major issue in Europe, therefore if the Schengen Accord is eventually revisited, then this is possibles when I feel new visa arrangements will probably be evoked.

Yes, it may be slow coming but it is coming. Tighter border controls do not mean stopping all people entering a country, it means only allowing those you want to come enter. Those who will be of benefit and as Spain economy relies heavily on tourism?

I personally can’t see how any legislation to sidestep the EU stay regulations could ever be enacted without impacting Schengen regs, so it looks to me like a non-starter. Another question tho: while we’re banging on about Brits and their ambitions to extend the 90/180 day EU stay regulation, are there any similar moves by French, Spanish, Dutch, German owners of second properties in UK? My guess would be that any changes would have to be reciprocal, so will Mrs Fernandez Braverman be prepared to offer EU citizens extended stays in UK? I wonder how such a move would be received by Brexiteers.

It maybe a case of bend one rule now what rules will a country want bent in the future?

Regarding the article on the change this artcile maybe fueling the fire The 180 Days in Spain campaign gathers momentum.

As for the '.....will Mrs Fernandez Braverman be prepared to offer EU citizens extended stays in UK?''  Was there not some offer made to to let some of the semi-skilled workers i.e, lorry drivers, healthcare workers carers etc from Central Europe stay if they applied for a special visa but most if not all of the trageted group declined. I think the general consensus being the insecurity brought about by Brexit.
