I think you will find that it was the little average pensioner that voted for Brexit, so they shot there self in the foot, they will now have to live with it, why should Europeans have to try and help them out.

John99andrew, why on earth are you making this a BREXIT issue for goodness sakes.  The French have agreed to a mutual exchange of licence so it’s not unreasonable to suggest the Spanish might do the same.  But now you mention it, just how many of the ‘litter average pensioner’ in the U.K. , who may or may not have voted leave, do you believe were looking to make Spain, or any other EU Nation, their home in retirement ?

Anybody out there got any recommendations for a good english speaking driving school/instructor in Mojacar?  What area are the tests likely to be in?

Sorry but I cannot help you there.  I did try at least 5 different schools before I found one in Lorca, some 20 minutes drive from home, as not all have English speaking instructors.  The tests are conducted in only certain regional centres so I would suggest you find out where the nearest to Mojocar and take your lessons there.  Good luck.

It would seem that it is you john99andrew who thinks he knows everything and perhaps it is you who needs to ‘climb’ down off your high horse. The post was about asking advice regarding Spanish driving lessons and examinations, you however decided to make it an anti BREXIT issue.  Try being nice and helpful just for once, if you cannot, or will not, answer the question posed then leave it at that.

Hi Deishu, I had to undergo both the theory and practical tests earlier this year as the DGT would not accept my UK licence as they insist I applied too late although I had applied before end 2020.  Rather than get into an argument with them, one I could not possibly win, I chose to bite the...

... bullet and take the tests.   First step is to join a local driving school who will set you up with an online theory examiner (some 90 plus exams which you can as many times as you feel you need)  along with an English version of the Spanish Rules of the Road. Once you are confident that you can pass the theory test, (you need 27 out of 30 correct answers to pass) advise the driving school who will arrange your theory test.    Once you have passed your theory test you will have to take a number of 'driving lessons' with the school (I took 4 mainly to ensure I was familiar with the different routes used by the examiner on the day.  There are only so many examination sites and they will not always be close to the driving school so make sure you visit the examination location and routes during your lessons.  Once you are happy with the lessons and familiar with the routes the school will apply for the practical examination.  You might find the driving school, and examiner teach and expect you to do some strange things, especially regarding roundabouts, but just 'bite the bullet' and do as they ask although it may well be alien to your driving.  I studied on line for 6 weeks a few hours a day, it may well take you less time but only you will know when you are ready.  The cost for all of this was some euro 600 plus a further euro 50 for a medical (obligatory) if indeed you can call it that.  In my humble opinion it is nought but a money making enterprise, by all concerned, but as they say 'when in Rome'.  It truly was not that difficult, more of a pain in the rear to be honest, and I'm sure you will do OK. My driving Instructor and examiner on the day spoke some English so the language was not a problem.

Best of luck, Andy.

PS.  I passed some 5 months ago and I am still awaiting my new drivers licence, they tell me it was posted 3rd August to my PO Box, the driving school is now on the case.

Very nearly my exact experience

Passed 3 months ago told licence was posted early aug still waiting

First, pensionable age people voted 3:1 to leave, middle aged 50:50 and the young voted the reverse. it was only at the next general election that a mass of toungsters signed up to be eligible to vote/

Back to the driving licence.....

I want to know how it is that Spain can impose this law. As resident before Brexit took place I secured my European rights (allegedly). We should be treated as other EU nationals.

Spanish drivers wishing to exchange licences have no restrictions, just a similar fee to Brits that can exchange.

We are being used as political pawns by the Madrid government not treated as European citizens.

I happen to hold two passports and the second one is European too but I willnow have to do the test or leave.... second option looks promising!

The deadline is currently October 31st and may be extended but only if you applied already. When I last looked on the DGT site there was no option for the UK in the Euro zone area or the accepted system for countries outside the EU? I have written to CAB Spain as a way of getting some representation on this but I suspect  it will be ineffective because politicians are horse trading. How will future sales of preperties be affected if you are not going to be able to use a licence here?
