Hi Patricia,

I can see both sides of the coin here. I like Matthew would challenge people not abiding  by the rules. I can understand that your son doesn't feel he should have to explain to complete strangers, but we are in a very odd situation where people feel threatened by people not wearing a mask.  Catch 22,

Perhaps the answer is for the authorities that issued your son with a certificate, could issue people that are exempt from wearing a mask with badges that they can wear when out and about and people can clearly see that there is a reason for them not wearing a mask, without them having to explain to strangers.

Thanks you for your post Patricia. I have no problem with people refusing to wear masks because of their medical conditions. For them it is the correct thing to do and they are entitled not to wear a mask.

My ire is concentrated on people who have no adverse medical condition whatsoever who refuse to wear masks. They spit openly, cough dangerously, sneeze deliberately and if unchallenged will continue to do so. I make no apologies for my concern in this matter.

In Ireland at the moment things have got considerably worse regarding Covid-19. Many became lax throwing house parties and refusing to self distant in the newly opened pubs and restaurants. We have some healthy cretins refusing to wear face masks on public transport knowing the Irish police cannot be everywhere.

Or even serious.....!! It wasn't our reason for putting the initial comments on this forum. It wasn't about people that for medical reasons can't wear a mask.It was about the idiots who think they are being clever and totally ignoring the rules that have been put in place to protect everyone from this pandemic...

1. No John. This is not like a yellow star in WW2. I reckon a small pin badge would do the job.

2. People who use Disabled Parking Spaces put a badge on the dash board of their car. This ain't like a yellow star in WW2 either.

3. And if you bring up the comparison of lepers ringing bells and shouting "unclean" you'd be wrong too.

Let's keep the subject on the straight and narrow; there's no need for unfair comparisons.

OMG. why do you take this to a ridiculous level, I am perfectly serious ( by the way thats how you spell it!!) How can you possibly read into what I suggested as liking it to a Yellow Star in WW2.

Translators in this area have now been issued with an ID badge that they clip to their bag or jacket, this saves them being stopped every 5 minutes when entering hospitals, government building etc. Its a way of identifying people quickly.

If people dont want to be stopped and questioned as to why they aren't wearing a mask, then I would have thought that having ID that clearly shows they are exempt is the way to go.

IT feels like a reliëf! From the beginning of april, I Saw that's the media was lying. I have lungcancer and can't wear a mouthcap. The anxious people almost forced me to wear IT. The corona virus is simply not what they tell is. Turn off your TV!

Hi Shay,

1. As an ex microbiologist can you say what will work?

2. You cite Sweden as a country that got things right. But, aren't they going through a tough Covid time at this moment?

3. I can inform you of what hasn't worked (a) Many of those who should wear masks refuse to wear them (b) Governments acting too slowly in reacting to Covid situations (c) Many people behaving irresponsibly (d) People holidaying and either bringing the virus to their place of holiday or bringing it back to their home country (e) Those irresponsible fools who insist on having house parties (f) Washing hands properly is an easy task, but how many fail to do it?
