Matthew cannot believe you are singing the praises of this joker, he has just announced another knee jerk reaction of 14 days quarantine for people returning from Spain to the UK, we have almost zero deaths, and yes the infection rate has doubled, but I believe under control and mainly in certain...

... areas of northern Spain, this government is unbelievably stupid.

You would not believe I voted for this ass at the last election 🧐

His past form would seem to indicate this new “enlightenment” he is showing is a cover for something.  Crisp, clear thinking and apologies are just not his style - he’s all bluster and buffoonery.  Chances are Dominic has had a word in his ear, and that’s why I was wondering if this is just a smokescreen to cover something else if importance that’s about to drop ....

If he kept allowing people from Spain to return without quarantine then that would have been wrong!!! The fact is Spain opened nightclubs too soon....(and yes I think English pubs were also opened too soon!

Do you know how many people were fined for breaking quarantine rules the last time this was introduced, 1 person, you are entitled to your opinion which I respect, but this is politically motivated, the death rate in the UK far exceeds that of Spain, this rule in my view is madness.

How can you compare death rates when the UK counts ALL deaths when the person has showed positive to Covid at ANY time, even if it was 2 to 3 months ago.....Yet Spain only records deaths as Covid linked if they were positive in the last 21 DAYS......So of course UK is higher!  The ONLY way to compare is to take the average of deaths at the same period over the last 3 years, and then count the excess as the deaths attributed to Covid.....Both Spain and UK are on a par with this number.... Personally I don't care if one Country has more deaths than another!!!!! ANY DEATH is one too many, and anyway of stopping this worth trying.   I am not sure where the number of 1 fined comes from.....In Dorset there had been several fined....and rightly so!

Its actually worse ,because deaths in care homes were automatically classed as covid. If you wanted to question doctor then you were advised a post mortem to prove otherwise could take 4 to 6 weeks.

Wrong way of looking at this imho.

1.  COVID virus doesn’t care re nationality so infection deaths are likely similar (or will be over time)

2. Uk probably over reports (compared to other nations). and national comparisons are unreliable

3. Therefore no basis for imposing quarantine on others with probably similar infection rates.  The time to do so was February or early March when the virus was allegedly contained in some areas (if)

4. The UK’s approach is to redefine COVID as if it were a ‘foreign’ problem (in line with Brexit etc). Irrational and Trump-like.  Ignores or even diverts from failures here (but to some extent being ‘fessed up to)

It (COVID) is so widespread now that national boundaries are irrelevant.  Each country will have local spikes etc and probably deal with them relatively similarly.

So, pubs open etc in the UK but quarantine makes no sense

Have you seen this evenings numbers....over 2k new positive cases in Spain....So yes UK opened pubs.....slightly mad!       But opening nightclubs and Bingo halls in Spain was insane!
